Hey good post there. It could have just been senior night, which we all have been a part of...so apology's for jumping any gun. I think a lot, even myself, are looking to see what the problem is...but I think experience in football is low in JC compared to other areas around here. It'll just take some time so let Carter do what he has to do is what I say. Haynie showed that he can get a big win when he needs one in wins over Boone and SH this year...and I think South can take it to TN High as well. District wise, South is looking to be in a good position to be runner up conference wise with an overall 6-4 record.

Playoff wise tho, and I don't agree with this, they are NOT going to get a higher seed because of an automatic birth, am I right?

correct, the only thing that determines seeding is the teams standing in the TSSAA playoff criteria.

I just wanted to throw this out there.Everybody keeps saying wait until SC builds up SHILL.I know hes a GOOD coach but all he did was win at a COUNTY school playing a BUNCH of SCRUBS like JOHNSON COUNTY,SNORTH,SEAST,SCENTRAL,ERWIN,ELIZABETHTON{{when they were in down yrs}}and a couple others. In all that winning he couldnt beat D-B one time.I think he might get SHILL a little better but not like some of yall are talking.Look at some of his STAFF.One came from SEAST and one from SCENTRAL and what did they do.Anywhere else and they would have been fired,But at SEAST and SCENTRAL who else would have taken the job.Letz be HONEST does anyone on here think countys schools will do anything??SSOUTH get runoffs from KINGSPORT thats why they have been OK.But thats about to CHANGE.Ill close with this, SHILL be happy with your B-BALL and just deal with the fact you want be as good as D-B.And don't rivalries mean BOTH teams have a chance at WINNING??? :thumb: Yall got a guy that has done PROVED he can't beat GC and D-B.JUST SAYIN

This post is so stupid that I shouldn't even reply but I can't help it. South's season the past 3 years

2007 state semifinals

2008 State quarterfinals

2009 State semifinals

Since no one around here has been racking up state titles in the last 30 years, I would be willing to bet that 3 year stretch for South is about as good as any other team in this area in recent memory in that school's classification. Elizabethon in the Witten era , Greeneville right now, Cloudland a few years back and DB around 2000 could be comparable.

Am I missing anyone?

In the announcers defense, the referee did signal 1st down...

congrats to south on a good game. as it was clearly visible last night, science hill still has a ways to go yet...

No, the chain gang had not moved the chains and Science Hill had already ran a play. That was the way we saw it anyway.

Yeah in there Classification,And good for them. But what im saying is SHILL and SOUTH people keep talking about SC.He's OK and thats about it.He'll have better ATHLETES at SHILL but i dont think there that much better than whats at SSOUTH.People say that the BIGGER schools have more to pick from, and that might be true. But if the Players are AVG. to BELOW AVE. what difference does it make how many you have OR how many you get to pick from.Ill take a team of 40 with GOOD players than a team with 90 AVG to BELOW AVG. players.Thats the point im trying to make.I think SC will make SHILL better but i don't see that big of an IMPROVEMENT.

I'm judging it on class Waco (and what I know from what has been said)

I thought DB was losing a lot graduating besides....Sea? SH gets almost everyone back?

TN High has a young experience wise senior class don't they? South should be kicking it pretty well with a lot returning. Boone takes a HUGE hit from losing seniors, but should have about half the starters back.

Tennessee will return several starters on defense. Only three starters on the defense are seniors. The offense will lose quite a bit, but should return a couple of players on the line and three backs in the backfield who have played in several games this season.

Now we've got it behind us - the game we had all been waiting for. We beat'em on the Hill, fair and square. The Rebels are Haney's Boys now, and now the Haney train can move on - Woo hoo!!!

As an aside, I can't believe the so-called Rebel fans on this forum beating up on another fan just because he's loud. We should all be that loud - so those Rebel Boys can hear us. I guarantee you the boys hear him, and that helps keep up their momentum. You might try getting to know him - you couldn't ask for a nicer fellow. His cheering doesn't bother me a bit. If it bothers you, maybe you might want to consider staying home and listening to game on the radio.

Nobody said he doesn't have the right to cheer any way he wishes.

I have every right not to like it, as it takes away from my viewing enjoyment.

And it isn't about being loud.

He knows.....so......Whatever !

Guest footballfan100

if the fan you are referring to is the same one that seems like he goes to the sidelide as often as he is in the bleachers, how does a parent get the right of way to just stroll on down to the sideline and help coach whenever he feels the need? just wondering what warrants that much freedom?? how many trips did you make to the sideline Comp??? i wouldnt think many.....

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
