The one great thing that came out ot the scrimage was that a big question had been answered. What does Oakland have to work on? Applause to the Oakland coashing staff for scheduling such tough competition for such a young team. The coaching staff could of hid this team from everybody else. Now each player knows what they have to work on individualy and team wise to win against a top program. Every team in the state sees the same team everyday in practice. But when you can go up against quaility opponents in scrimages that is a win win situation. Yes you got handled. But they will learn from it and it doesnt count in the loss column. Last year when Smyrna rolled into Ensworth undefeated and got beat it did something to the resolve of the team. Made them better. Same thing will happen to Oakland. Now they have been tested. Which do you think is a better scenario? 35-0 win against a team like Independence, Antioch or a Glencliff. Or a 35-0 loss to Ensworth. Ensworth came out and executed and did things the way a quality team should. Those kis learned more in one scrimage against Ensworth than ten scrimages against a lot of other teams. I am sure the coaching staff will tell you that it was not about the score or who won or lost but it was about learning, getting better, and competing on a higher level. Something you cant get from everyday practice. Good luck this year Patriots. Go 7-AAA!!!!

Reminder. Key word. SCRIMMAGE.

Scrimmages are for trying folk in new spots and teaching them how to correct their mistakes. The score is irrevalent. No one ever got a gold ball by winning a scrimmage.

Kudos for scrimmaging them.

I am sure we learned many things.

Patriots don't tuck their tails and quit.

This team won't .

Their staff will look at the film and make the right adjustments.

Wait and see.

Patriots will bounce back with a vengeance and a swagger.

Still need to work on my Lou Holtz routine eh? Oh well.........

I have read about how Oakland is down and how young this team is. I have seen posts about How Oakland is a 4th place team. 3rd place at best. Well that dog just won't hunt. You take this team lightly and it will be a loss for sure. Everyone knows that.

Is Oakland down? Who knows. Are we young? You betcha. We will be playing/starting close to half a dozen sophmores, and most of the older players are just now getting snaps for the first time. I could honestly see this team winning the district, I could also see them finishing 5th, neither one would honestly suprise me. Ill say this though, you better get your shots in while you can, because once Oakland's ridiculously young talent gains experience, they are going to be very tough to beat for the long term future. Alot of talent on the freshmen team as well. Sure wont have to worry about Coach McDaniel going anywhere....

    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
    • No sir. I watched it specifically and it was very dirty. He cleated the boy on purpose. Apparently, it’s an issue in football as well from what several schools have said. That said, looking forward to a good game 3. ER hit it well in game 2.
    • He is the transfer. 5star spoke on him in their new qb1 series. Didn’t list em as a transfer but I knew the name
    • Gunner Warren was the second starter, freshman. SP #1 arm impressed me last night.
