But Aydelott on the other hand, who was a metro guy that was smart enough to get out too...he's still fair game? Although I do have to say you seem to be warming up to him a bit.

I have always thought Coach A was a 'nice' guy and smart that he got out of Metro. What I had a problem with was his bringing the Metro 'ATTITUDE' with him. R'dale has never been a school where if and when you lost you just said "Oh well, at least we played well". We said, "What happened and what do we need to do to fix it.". Also there was a NO MERCY attitude and we took no prisoners. Football is a war and showing mercy in a war will get you killed just like it will get you beat in football.

Also while R'dale has never been a pass happy offensive school, at least we did it. That was NOT done with Coach A until he got both pressure from without and within after the first season in 20 years where we did NOT make the playoffs. I know he would love to have a pure WingT run offense win the State Championship, it has not happened yet. Odds are it never will either. That is just a fact of life that neither he or I can change. Thing is I admit it and he is coming around to it, FINALLY!

Delaware has done pretty decent with the WingT.

Three national championships with nine conference championships isn't too shabby.

Yes, but that is College and NOT high school. Also Delaware passes with it! When Coach A came you would have thought the word PASS was taboo and not in his vocabulary.

His bringing a couple other coaches did not help either as they immediately had the deer in the headlights look when they hit 5A/6A ball in Rutherford County. Thankfully they are gone and DEFENSE is starting to be played again.

Georgia high school football, which is superior to Tennessee in most respects must be really confusing to you with all the wing t teams that win championships.

I can certainly testify to this being the case at HHS under Aydelott. It was an extremely rare occurrence to see HHS teams throw the ball when he was there.

Look, the Wing-T is not a bad offense in and of itself, by any stretch. It has been plenty successful for various coaches across various levels of football. Where Aydelott's problem WAS (as apparently he has now gone to passing pretty often out of it, and beat Blade's Oak Ridge team in the quarterfinals this past season in addition to Riverdale winning the district) his teams could regularly count on beating teams (SOME very good teams, btw) with tremendous defense and a running game for the ages that would just force opposing teams into physical and mental submission.

However, if his team ever did get behind late in a close game, they had a hard time moving the ball and scoring very quickly. I always wonder what would have happened against Maryville in the 2001 and 2002 state championships if Aydelott and Hemontolor would have been less resistant to passing the football, but I digress. Bottom line to me is Aydelott finally being willing to throw out of the Wing-T is best for his success and his program's.

Yeah, maybe they could wave a magic wand and turn Tim Gray into Cam Newton.

Tim Gray was a great wing-t quarterback, but not a great passer.

lod, for a guy that has only negative thoughts about metro you sure are spending alot of time on this thread. you must like self torture or something. ;)

Just one that is originally from 'Metro'. My roots are in Antioch as my Mother was a Valdictorian there. A BUNCH of my friends graduated from there.

It is just remembering the great teams that have come from there that is motivating my dislike of what it has become.

This state of affairs is generally not the Coaches fault. It has to do with what alot of things that has gone wrong with our country more than anything. Thing is what is wrong there could be corrected alot easier than the rest of the country. Like the country it will not get better until citizens from all over actually get involved and speak up.

Now will Metro actually hire 'new' coaches or just move around mediocre ones like usual?
