I dont agree with this. I play at Webb and we played both Ensworth and Maryville this year. I know its only one game but in my opinion Ensworth would beat Maryville if both played the way they did against us. They are both excellent teams and it would be a good game but I do believe Ensworth would win. I dont think we could have played any worse than the first quarter against Maryville, but at half the score was 14-0. We fumbled on the first series and Maryville scored and then scored again in the first quarter. Ensworth was up 27-0 at half and should have been up 34-0. We were on the sidelines thinking they would score 70 points. I do think Maryville has the better quartback even though the Ensworth quarterback had a better game against us. Ensworth was just a disciplined as Maryville and has more speed, size, better receivers and two running backs that are the best I have ever played against.

 

 

If you play for Webb, you remember a different game than me. I am aging, so I could be wrong, but didn't Webb actually score first? I thought it was 7-0 Webb and then Maryville scored 17 and was ahead at half 17-7.

Maryville was only behind twice all year. Riverdale 0-7 and Whitehaven 3-7.

 

 

RR, my bad. Age is taking over. Maryville did score first and Webb came back and scored on a trick play, I believe, to tie it up at 7, then Maryville drove down and was held to a field goal to make it 10-7 and in typical GQ fashion, Maryville scored again just before the half to make it 17-7 at half....

Eye'm shore that affectid Webb on tha deefensive side two..Becaws Aaron iz a grait cornur two wif speed two burn...And eye beeleeve Webb haid anuthur db out agin Endswerth...

 

And knott two menshun tha sykee ov tha whole Webb teem... :popcorneater:

I would have to agree that the Webb team that Ensworth faced was not the same team that Maryville faced. Webb had from spring practice until August 21 to prepare for that game, mentally and physically...then to go out and get whipped and then one of your star players being kicked off of the team the next week, they had to be down mentally and physically.

Maryville is a great team. I love to watch them play. If anything, they remind me in a way of trinity in ky. They are very disciplined and fun to watch when firing on all cylinders. My comment is about the one loss at ensworth to Baylor early on. If you switch Ensworth and Maryville's schedule this year, more than likely Ensworth would run the table. I think Maryville would have too but it would not have been so easy with , BA , Baylor and MUS... All teams at one time ranked top 30 this year nationally. I was not sure Maryville would win 6 A this year but earned my respect with it's last two wins. Both ensworth and Maryville pulled out the A game in the playoffs which did not surprise me considering how good both coaches are.

I don't know the schedules for next year but would be fun to see them play. In my opinion next year could be Ensworth's best team ever. One that could compete for a national championship. They lose no offensive or defensive linemen. Their quarterback and mr football running back return and they have a kid 6'3 who runs a 4.37 40 taking over at wide receiver and safety. Where would you guys who are Maryville fans rank this team versus the other state championships this past decade?

Just curious....what game did Maryville "pull out" in the playoffs?

 

I am sure you are enjoying sucking up to Ensworth after they THUMPED you in the Championship game.

I did not go to Baylor prep school ...Baylor is the name of my dog. I played football in NC highschool for my father and after in college at Illinois. For 10 years I covered high school football for newspapers in tn and ga..

 

Dont sweat it, everybody gets touchy if they read/hear something questioning their teams "immortality".....lol

      Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.

      I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.

      Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
