State of Shelbyville girls basketball

It has been two years since the departure of Coach Burkey and the hiring of Allison Clark. Since then Shelbyville has not returned to the state tournament and has gone 27-36 in her two years. In the end of the season Boyd West left his second team in the middle of the season and one of the starting seniors was dismissed. In the last two years, Shelbyville has placed third in that district behind Franklin Co. and Lawrence Co. (who remain the favorites next year).

What in the world is going on over there? I am an outsider just trying to figure out if this program can ever get back on the right path again. Thoughts? Is it time for yet another coaching change? Are the current/future kids playing ball this summer? I have watched Hooptown a few times this summer and did not recognize any of their kids.

The one thing I will say, and it is not about Allison Clark, cause she may be a great coach, and it might be a lot of other factors. But not always do great players make great coaches. Another factor, did Coach Clark have any high school coaching experience before she took the Shelbyville job?? I think over the last few years we have seen on the girls side of basketball people gets jobs as head coaches with little experience coaching high school basketball, and several have not fared that well.

Allison Clark is a good coach. The talent level is down. Very simple.

The talent level might be down but how do you explain the state of the Athletic programs at Shelbyville? Some friends any myself were discussing this a couple of weeks ago as to how the programs at Shelbyville all seem to be down. I believe that the football team was a game or so above .500 for the first time in a long time but both basketball teams have been down for a few years, baseball has been bad for 4-5 years, softball has been down forever. Soccer has not been very good in a while. I don't believe that they even have a track team or volleyball or wrestling. How is that possible? This is a AAA school. Are other schools having the same problems simply fielding teams or is it just Shelbyville?

I remember when I was in High School (20 years ago) Shelbyville was always tough in all sports. What has happened???

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
