I agree with you to a point. But at what point do you start blaming the players. Have you been to any of their practices? If not you should go and watch. Their coaches preach and preach fundamentals. They can shoot 1000 free throws a day, but if they can't make them under pressure, how is that the coaches fault. That is Oak Ridge's problem, too many people want to blame the coaches, well I've been around Oak Ridge athletics from the little leagues to the high school, and I continue to see our kids get out worked. Some of that starts at home. We have good athletes but we don't have any phenoms, so quit patting little Johnnie on the butt and making excuses for him. We simple have gotten out played, out hustled, out executed. Every game they have lost they have led by 9-10 points at one time.

Well, the players need to be held accountable, too. You are right. Both them and the coaches. OR was up by 11 AT Science Hill earlier in the year with Rashad Gray, Xavier Maddox, and Kevin Steen all out. They ended up losing that game of course, but they were up by as much as 11 on there home court. OR just doesn't seem to have that killer mentality when they have a team on the ropes.

People keep underestimating Powell. When you don't care who gets the credit, it's incredible what can be accomplished. Powell could win at Science Hill. But I'm hoping that Powell is playing at home during substate.

I don't think anybody in our district has underestimated Powell at all. I can see them winning the district and region. But, there's no way they can beat science hill, no way. I've seen them play, and I don't think any Powell player would be a starter on their team. Again, they are a really good TEAM, but u have to have some size, and a couple lock down defenders to beat them. Of course winning district, district tourney, and regional, are all great accomplishments, and I know 8 other teams that would love to be in powells position. Trust me, I am a big fan of their team, and team concept, so don't take any of this the wrong way.

Im going to go ahead and predict that AC ends it district winless streak in the first round of the tournament...Some of you may chuckle, but you dont beat a D-Dub team 3 times in a row often. Coach Moore will get an early start on his 3rd layer of base tan this year. While he is busy warming up his tanning bulbs, the Mavs will be warming up the nets at CCHS.

I agree. As good as Powell is, they just don't give you that "wow" factor. I would be surprised to see them make sub-state to be honest. Our game Fri night while all the credit goes to Powell for pulling out the win it was more of Oak Ridge beating themselves. 2-12 from the FT line and horrible shooting from the field, missed layups, you name it. I still give credit to them for pulling it out, though.

SS, I agree with what you are saying. Powell isn't going to out-talent many teams, but they are a great team, they play fundamentally sound, they have excellent coaching, and they know how to win close games. However, I wouldn't say that there is "no way" they can beat Science Hill. Sure, SH would probably beat them 9 times out of 10, but that still leaves one win for Powell.

Anything can happen in a game like high school basketball, especially with no shot clock. I just hope the Panthers continue to be patient and take it one game at a time, now that tournament season is here.

Your right, no way may be a bit harsh. But, in 100 meetings, I'd take SHill every time. Don't forget, SHill also has a good coach, great outside shooters, strength inside, 8 on the ball defenders. I hope they do meet, that'd mean Powell had advanced deep in tourney. If they kept it within 15 points, I'd be surprised.

I like how you think lol...Honestly with our athletic talent we should be in the place Powell is in right now. Unfortunately talent alone doesn't win ballgames(Just look at the L.A. Lakers) Powell has been a better "team" this year. Got to credit there coach a lot because if you stack up athlete to athlete it isn't even close and i am not just saying that because i'm an OR fan. If we can learn how to play as a "team" like Powell has done this year, we can play with just about anyone in the state imo. Just a matter of getting there.

Powell is coached pretty darned well, too. Mike Ogan has never really gotten the credit he deserves as a high school basketball coach.

Outstanding coach! Should've been coach of year last two years, and if he doesn't get it this year, they need to do away with the award! I was just pointing out that SHill has a good coach too, so that would basically be a wash head to head, and it would be players vs players and they are better in every position than Powell. That's all, I love ogan, and I love race too.
