Class A State Tournament

I noticed 95% were picking Union City over Cloudland. 3 years ago a highly ranked team from West Tennessee barely survived at the buzzer against a District 1 team. The next two years a highly ranked team from West Tennessee lost in the first round. Cloudland's posts are much better than folks seem to be giving them credit for. Guards are steady and can shoot. Would not surprise me if they win going away.

It's gona be hard to overlook a Miss Basketball finalest, good luck Landers.

I agree, Trader. Not one word on here about Madison today. Being from 15A also (TCA), think if they put 4 quarters together, they are going to be a tough out. Have seen them play 4 or 5 times this year and have a tendency to sit out a quarter - if they do that, they will be out after today----having said that, they have the tools to make a run. I picked them to win Region before it started and they did. (Enjoyed seeing your girls play this year)

Thanks for the props for the team.Happy for Coach Patterson and the Mustangs to have a good game and let folks know that we play state calibre ball in 15A too(even if we don't talk it up that much).Madison was probably the third or forth best team at the start of the season, but I had them picked to be our toughest opponent at regionals too...any of the top four(barring Jones's injury from Riverside)probably could have advanced to the semi's,but all the respect for Madison...they got it done when it mattered, and if they play a solid game Jackson Co.(if they advance) could have their hands full.No disrespect to Collinwood at all,but I knew when most were picking them without much consederation that a lot of folks' brackets were in trouble. Congrats to madison on their win.I have to admit,I was one of the skeptics. But am glad they won.

And not a slight at Madison as even if it had been LC,wouldnt have picked them this year.I had LC getting out of the district but not the region so they surprised.Good luck to Madison the rest of the way.Gonna have their hands full next game.

Congrads to Collinwood for making the elite 8 and congrads to Madison for advancing to the final four. Collinwood is a better team than they looked today, regardless Madison was pretty impressive. Is that kind of shooting typical for them? They certainly shot lights out and the girls in the post can play ball also. Should be a great game between Madison and JC. Congrads to both for advancing.

If Madison plays as good as they did today Friday, they can beat JC. I have a feeling it's going to be a close game.

I sure hope so. I watched today's games online (heading over Friday to watch) and they were all one sided. Even the Antioch/Overton game wasn't that exciting...maybe tomorrow and Friday will have some excitement!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
