If I were a U parent, my question would be how did Hedgecoth get MVP of district tourney and didn't even get all-district? Its not like he just now started being a good player. I know the two coaches sons got all district? Just seems sorta fishy. I still contend if more talent would have played all four years, for whatever reason they didnt, they could be much better. The oldest Mcwilliam is a good hs player and no disrespect meant towards him. Seems like LA was flat all night.

The oldest one was held back for two years in middle school and then got to play all four years in hs. If other players had that much time to develop then they would overshadow him. He's really not that great.

How old is he then? Never heard of being held back two years. He seems like the most level headed of the three. The freshman is a very dirty player with a very bad attitude. He plays alot on jv but shows very little talent. Absolutely hate how he talks back to his father/coach in the game, but as they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree........

I can assure ya'll the senior Mc was only held back 1 yr. 8th grader twice. Why? Not sure. I am more worried about what i see as the worst collective group of referee's i have ever seen. I think it really helps if a person actually played the game. Horse doesn't count! At least ask somebody about good/bad fouls, walks, over the back, ways to draw a charge, illegal contact etc. I know games should be easier to ref when you haven't made both sides mad at you. If you are a ref and just thought 'it don't bother me' then you are the problem and go find another way to make money.

I thought if you were held back as an 8th grader that you had to miss a year of High School eligibility as well? Anyone know the rule?

TSSAA Repeating Rule states:" A student who repeats 7th or 8th grade and participates in school athletics while repeating shall be ineligible to participate in athletics in the 9th grade."

The Age Limit Rule states:"No student shall be eligible to participate in any athletic contest during any school year if he/she becomes 19 years of age on or before August 1."

(Age Limit might catch some who are held back once or twice)

Then if this is the case how did they get passed this rule considering someone has already said he played as a freshman?

The key part of the statement is: "and participates in school athletics while repeating".

In others words if he played sports the year that he repeated the 8th grade, he would be ineligible in the 9th grade. That is what I understand the rule to say. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.

    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
