Was fortunate enough to see Oak Ridge play this past weekend in Cleveland Showcase vs DB Kingsport and SHHS johnson city. They play as hard and fast as anyone and have some people jumping out of them gym. If they are coming to a gym near you it's worth the price of admission. Merry Christmas :)

They play pressure defense that after 2 or 3 qtrs breaks down the other teams and they take control in the 4th. #33 hustles on every single play. Just found out this weekend that my grandfather was an electrician at the Oak Ridge Plant when it was built. Now I have a connection with Oak Ridge. Yea Wildcats! :) bandwagon proud :)

Mentor (OH) will play Oak Ridge in the first round of the Arby's Classic.  Mentor is a widely known "fan favorite" at the Arby's Classic because of their frantic pace, pressure defense, fundamental play, and three-point shooting.  Mentor has gone 9-3 at the Arby's Classic, losing to the eventual champs each time.  IMO, this game against Oak Ridge sounds like by far their toughest first round opponent in their four years at Bristol.  Mentor, the defending big school state champions in Ohio, returns just a few prominent players from last season.  It should be an interesting game.

Lol.... AAA runs through Memphis

Sure it does, and it should, loose zoning and 1/4  of the state's population in a small area (aprox 700k in memphis, 1.5 mil in the metro area). It is a testament to numbers pure and simple. Honestly from that standpoint all division should run through Memphis. Wonder why they don't?

Well, they do for the most part.... Memphis is one of the top 3 basketball cities in America, so, it's just not a fluke that all the players flock to one team as that is certainly not the case. White Station is your typical AAA powerhouse followed up with Central, East, Hamilton, Whitehaven, Ridgeway, Craigmont, Melrose.... the average Memphis teams could go to another district and win it for sure.... Examples for this year.... Arlington, Collierville, Bolton, Houston and the list goes on.... it's just not one team.... talent is so spread out throughout the city so your "loose zoning" argument holds no water....  And the reason why they don't is because Single A is dominated by District 14A with Humboldt, Union City, and Lake Co. and that now may change with Mitchell in Single A... AA has been run by the west in general for years up until CPA's current dominance, but Memphis had teams winning championships in AA as well.... AAA is dominated by Memphis and has been for years

I am not knocking Memphis, you obviously don't get my point.

White Station has 2400 students

Central 2000

Hamilton 1100

Whitehaven 2200

Ridgeway 1300

craigemont 1200

Melrose 1700

East 1100,

That is 13,000 students just on the schools you listed, For example between CCHS and SMHS there are a total of 2100 students for our county.

Cookeville 2100 Students,

White Co 1100.

Rhea Co  1300

Warren Co 1700

Our whole district has 8400 students spread over 5 counties.

Numbers matter, Nashville and Memphis make up over 1/2 of Tns population, and those populations are concentrated in a small area making it far easier to collect talent. Memphis teams being good shouldn't be a surprise.

Problem with Oak Ridge is their style dominates East Tn but does not prepare them for the elite middle and west Tn teams at the State. Fulton could press and trap all the time and they would win a lot of games, but they would not have won a couple of state championships. Green seems interested in winning district but not the state. Teams that handle pressure often beat OR because they never really have to play great half court defense. I would love to see them really look at their style of play.

IMHO playing press and trap defense does not prevent a team from playing very good half court defense. And over the years there have been plenty of good press and trap d's that made it to, and won state.

Of course some teams do press and trap to cover up weaknesses, and if that is the case then the coach is doing right, because it is better to make it to state and lose with the best game plan for your team, rather than to not make it playing a different style of play.
