South Pittsburg Coaching

You said it Slice!! I could say a lot more but I'll need a keyboard and not this iPhone. I know the ills of coach bashing and I don't condone it. I've saw too much crap at other places. But my son isn't a spoiled brat expecting a free ride in life. High GPA, worked two jobs during the summer, and has given his all for the mighty Pirates! Some things just need fixed! And for the record, I'm a big fan of Coach Stone. What happened with him leaving is a tragedy for SP football. Don't think I'm just wanting trouble and discontent. I just don't want to see the program suffer more! Kids will leave! Guaranteed! You old pirates and alumni don't necessarily know the whole story of what all has happened this year. We just don't want the "no emotion, no enthusiasm" coaching style to continue. Heck even DW was banned from pre game speeches. And he's one of the best to ever wear orange and black!! A true Pirate! Yet he's been unwelcome under current circumstances. A d#*@ shame. Help solve the issues. This ain't our old days. Some of you don't agree with the words spoken by my son and that's your opinion. But he is not spoiled or feeling entitled. I have worked hard since age 15 and instilled that work ethic in him. He loves the Pirates. As do I. Let's come together and rise up! Whatever helps, I'm behind it 100%. GO PIRATES!!!

Old Pirate addressed the lack of discipline and leadership at the start. The home opening gave signs of what was coming down the pike. Early losses with lack of gunpowder and the misuse of limited fire power and reoccurring mental mistakes shortage of toughness mushroomed into discontent and the pointing of fingers while few if any willing to be accountable, the posts by players prove the immaturity & lack of leadership on the team. Leastways, Old Pirate let the casino get some money back last night. BTW, agent60, parents should spoil all youngons to a point!

There are some good comments on here and I enjoy reading the CoachT forums. OP, you have made some good points! I wish we still had Coach Stone but that seems to be water under the bridge now. I hope that the Pirate seniors grow into fine men and do well in life. Nothing is given. It must be earned. Whatever happens in the future with Pirate football, I will still be supporting it. Attendance was way down this season... I hope the fans pack out the stands next year to watch the games on that Grider man's field. Like they have for many years past. I love my alma mater and hope to see the ship quickly righted and chopping through the water again with sails flying high.

yeah that's me and before you start running your mouth about a 17 years old kid didn't you come to the games and actually watch? I didn't start for no reason.

If you are the actual number of your name don't brag like you were dominant lol let's have reality several players this year played bc of the lack of talent

not saying I was dominate just saying I got my job done. I had to work to earn the spot as well. It just wasn't give to me.

This old geezer can't really say that he is shocked, thought SP had fallen on some tough times due to the talent drop off since Robert and his group graduated in 07. Seems to have finally hit rock bottom and now has to play the waiting game for the next talent pool. Being in 1A helps you out a lot seeing as how 1 to 2 studs can bring home a gold ball. If you have more than that then your almost guaranteed it. In my opinion I don't see you guys getting a new coach and don't believe it would fix the Pirate's problems. You fellers don't want to jump the gun and pull a Tennessee and go from bad to worse to god awful. Old Pirate seems to know a thing or two about football from what he posts and seems to be heavily involved in the KNOW when it comes to SP. Just take some advice from the kinfolk up the road when it comes to hiring and firing coaches. Sometimes waiting it out can be the better solution than trying to do a quick fix.

There's a handful of parents that are ruining the sports programs at SP, it's nice to see a few of their names are finally being outed!

I have sat back all year, reading the parents Facebook comments, listening to them complain and after reading through this feed I've came to the conclusion one of the biggest problems at SP is the Parents! How can we expect the boys to respect their coaches when the parents are constantly bad mouthing, second guessing the coach, under minding their authority or being disrespectful towards the coach &/or coaches all together! In my opinion some of the best athletes to come out of SP didn't have micromanaging parents, some were lucky if their parents even attended the games. I'm not saying parents shouldn't be involved, they definitely should be! Although I'm all for parent involvement I do believe that parents need to know their place, they should leave the coaching to the coaches & the teaching to the teachers! "Daddy" ball use to end when kids got into Junior High & High School sports, and it most certainly should but if SP isn't careful the parents are going to take over!

And as far as what happened Friday night....if my kids were being loud, disrespectful & making a mess in my car there is absolutely NO WAY I would stop & treat them to McDonald's, they would simply have to wait until they got home & eat a cold sandwich! Not "treating" them to a hot cheese burger is in no way mean or harmful to them! I mean really, these are 15, 16, 17 & probably some 18 year old boys we're taking about here, first of all: they are old enough to know & understand "that there's always consequences for your actions" second of all: they called their mommy's & daddy's to tattle on the coach?? Really!!! I can't think of one guy that played throughout my 4 years at that school that would have called his parent &/or parents on the way home to tattle on the coach &/or coaches!! These boys need to grow up & their parents need to cut the umbilical cords!!

I have always and will always support my kids in everything they do but I know my place when it comes to sports and that is in the stands (where the parents belong) cheering them & the team on!!!

Your joking me? Parents are trying to tell that Moore man what plays to run. What kind of mess is that? I garuntee you they need to sit up in the stands and watch the game like everybody else. I will show them my Murphy Fair book if they want to. You think im joking but im not.

I'm not going to give you credit for all this because most of us have stated these views several times already, but I will give you credit for putting it all together.  Good post.  I totally agree. There have been times I wanted to step in, but I didn't.  After the dust cleared and I found out what really happened I was glad I didn't step in.

Having said all that - I am still concerned about the future of our program, just like I am any year.  But I'm a little more concerned at the present than I ever have been before.

    • Yeah, we came up short. I remember we threw a ball over the middle to #5 Guymon? and he came up short of the sticks. Gave em he&& for a bit though.
    • Doe dee doe doe…..hmmmmmmm one of those players can run faster than my lawnmower when I put it in 5th gear turbo.  You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • Yeah I am on board and plan on coming down from the Ridge for some home games, great Friday night atmosphere there.  I'm really hoping SC can get them back going and have some success for those fans and community.
    • Yep I was field level on the scoreboard end throwing ball with Benny when we had that brief lead. Everybody got very excited but it was short lived as Murvil regrouped and went into machine mode. But yeah,  that hit sounded like the crack of a black powder rifle being fire.  I believe Dozier took one like that as a Soph up at Greeneville after on olay block.
    • Ole Benny boy lol. I forgot about Harder. He was tough as crap. He graduated in ‘09. I went to the OR/Maryville game that year (great game, btw) and he collided with Jacob West (I think was his name) and you could hear it clearly at the top of the visitor bleachers. Man, it was a stick. He could lay some wood son. All those guys were tough, Elliott included.
