Maryville, Fulton, and Morning Sports Talk

RR your "theory" makes sense but if you were at the Powell game what would you have done different to keep from scoring, FHS scored twice before 2 min left the clock and before 3 min left the clock they had scored 21. They ran 11 offensive plays in 2nd half ALL runs and generated 35 points. So I guess you tell the Soph and Frosh to not score, does that solve it... I was at that game and I really don't know what they could have done differently except let linemen run the ball like Little League teams do some for fun.

First, running up the score is not always a problem in my view.  It happens sometimes, despite efforts to the contrary.  It does not happen, however, with the regularity that it does at Fulton, without some effort to do so.  Second, I never said that anyone needs to "reign in" the freshmen.  Third, clearly the turnovers had something to do with the final score.

I still say that the "we couldn't help it" statement is absolute bs.  Perhaps the problem, such as it is, lies not with the freshmen in the second half, but with the starters playing the entire first half to lead 49-0 at halftime.  Think that might have something to do with these types of scores?

Not saying that there is necessarily anything wrong with Fulton's efforts to get noticed (and I recognize that they are a very good team), just saying (again) that the "we couldn't help it, we are just THAT GOOD" story is absolutely false.

They threw a screen pass for a TD up 63-0 last week against Bearden.

That's all I need to know.

As for the morning show...................yeah.

Wasn't there to say did/not happen but that had to be in the FIRST half based on score and SCREEN come on, that's running it up in your mind throwing the ball BEHIND the LOS in the first half. If was some type of vertical route I could see an argument but SCREEN isn't much different than a handoff they both happen behind the LOS.

You are right.  Faking a handoff, having the QB drop back, drawing the d-line to the QB and then lobbing it over while you have O-linemen down the field is practically the same thing as handing it off.  How dumb of me.

I don't think there starters played entire first half. There top two WR have like a combined 7 rec on season and the 3rd string back has as many carries as the first, so WHAT should they do ?? Against Powell they were that bad, there was NO way they could have not scored 83, Powell didn't even attempt to tackle most plays, I guess coach should have said to the boys "trip and fall don't score".... When you have ONE play drives for scores not a lot of time goes off clock.

So the back up qb not supposed to get any reps huh? Oh wait the back up wr not supposed to get a chance either huh? Dang so I guess because they are back ups they can only do turn and hand it off and block. How dumb of me to think a back up qb should be able to throw a screen lol. Dang - so Fulton really is that good, huh??? They are clearly the best team this state has ever seen, so I vote we give them all 8 of the gold balls this year and let everyone else compete for the silvers.  Sure am glad none of the lil ol' D2AA teams have to face that onslaught this year. Shoot, not even Maryville or Alcoa is big and bad enough to score over 80 points two weeks in a row (sarcasm).

I like Fulton, and think they are a good team, but y'all are just not winning over any fans for your school by coming on here (the 5A/6A board at that) with your smack down attitude.

Well if you looked at who started the thread and the first few post you would've seen we covered that it was in the improper thread and was started by a troll. And of course we are going to talk about our team especially when ppl who clearly were not at the game make post and talk down about kids playing football. It was 70-0 In the 1st half. So got the ball inside our 30 3 times on top of 3 non offensive tds that's 42 alone right there. Our qbs Were 5-10 with 4 tds in the 1st half. So what would you have did different? Take a knee on 1st n 2nd then punt on 3rd right? That's worse than running it up in my book.
