Maryville, Fulton, and Morning Sports Talk

So I've been listening to Doc, Jeff, & Heather this a.m. (Thursday) and so far here's what I've taken away:

  • Heather says that "there have been some teams that have talked trash about Marvyille in the past" and as a result "Coach Quarles has ran up the score on them." {She didn't give any specific incidents}
  • At some point, Fulton players challenged Maryville to a scrimmage, but Maryville refused. (from a caller)
  • Campbell County competed very well with Fulton in a pre-season scrimmage, matching them score-for-score. (from a caller)
  • A few years back, Maryville was playing South Doyle and was lining up to attempt a field goal at the end of the first half (up 3 scores).  The Rebels jumped off side, the SD fans got rowdy, so George sent in his offense after the penalty and threw a long touchdown class -- proving he will "jack up the score". (from a caller "Buddy")
  • Heather doesn't like it because neither Maryville nor Fulton will play teams from the Chattanooga area or the middle Tennessee area.  She stated, "California high school teams fly places to play other teams, so why can't Maryville or Fulton?"

Interesting morning I thought!

Here's my one legitimate thought I have about Fulton scoring 80+ the past two weeks.  I keep hearing folks defend Fulton by saying they "just can't help it."  And lots of good reasons are given.  But in the past few years, with the talent Maryville has had and considering some of the opponents they've faced (my Governors included), WHY have Maryville never put up 80?  The Rebels had 66 last year against WB, and that's the highest I remember them scoring in a while.  Would it not make sense with some of the talent, depth disparity over the years, that Maryville would have had one of these 80+ nights if indeed "it's just impossible not to?"  Or is Fulton at a different level than even Maryville has been?  Serious question.

A caller really said this below !!

  • Campbell County competed very well with Fulton in a pre-season scrimmage, matching them score-for-score. (from a caller)

Was there at scrimmage CC went down and scored 1st posession .. Fulton played zone  .. wnr to man to man and CC never scored again ... scrimmage ended 7td's -1 td Fulton ... listen I have been to all Fulton games .. there was nothing Coach could do to hols down scores ... 2nd halves were played by subs ..no passes thrown in 2nd half .. Powell game only ran 11 plays in 2nd half all runs 5 for TD's .. subs .... Bearden game ran 20 plays in 2nd half .. all runs by sophs and freshman.

When I listen to Doc, Jeff, and Heather, it's usually to laugh at how terrible they are as a group.

Mickey gets mad when someone disagrees with him and then talks over them and ignores their side.

Heather is there because of her looks, but she has gotten better over time.

Jeff is the most balanced, and I actually kind of enjoy when it's just him and Heather, because there are more facts given than opinions given.

With all 3 of them together, it's a clown show, mainly thanks to Mickey and his stubborn opinions, and Jeff & Heather HAVE to agree with him.

Some of their callers make it even funnier with how stupid/ignorant they are.

The most hilarious of all is that Heather is the resident expert covering the Vols with her daily practice report. She doesn't know it from shinola about football. Gimme a break already.

Speaking of it from shinola, I'm traveling to the JV game at West and Healthers practice report comes on and she called Coach Jones Coach Dooley!!! Rofl!!!

    • Eagleville hosting shows laziness on the part of the TSSAA and a complete disregard for the appearance of impartiality. Absolutely nothing against EHS. Its not their fault TSSAA is lazy.    I understand EHS staff work the games at Eagleville, and they don’t want to miss the EHS games. However this isn’t rocket science. It would take less than 1 hour to cross-train EHS and RHS volunteers at the opposite sites. If Eagleville (or any host)  makes the tournament, flip their game site and have the volunteers flip sites for the days their school plays at the opposite site. Magically the school’s fans would be present to watch the their kids play and the kids at least lose some familiarity and home field advantage.  It takes almost no effort and is a ~15 minute extra drive.
    • Great to have Coach Peek back !
    • We feel the pain!
    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
