1A 2015 preseason favorite

Recommended Posts

They've been on a decline since the years they had Patrick Willis for the most part. The 90s were their last good years really. . They sure were a force to reckon with in their good years! I'm glad Patrick does so much to give back to the community though. He puts on a football camp for the kids every year. I still remember my alma mater and Bruceton being rivals... I've seen him play many games! Great guy with a great story to tell!

Does the Gilmore guy still coach?

LadyKee......no disrespect intended towards GB.  As OnB stated, my omission of GB has to do more with the quality of players that they are losing than any other variable.  Anderson alone is a all-star quality football player and he will be hard get the same quality player in his place immediately.  That being said if they were hiding that good of a player somewhere.....I'd say they would have threw him in there.  Oneida and TC both experienced the loss of such a player as Anderson this year (#2 Cheetah and #5 Harper), and it definitely impacted their offense while they were out.  The fact that they were able to overcome those losses was a testament to their depth more than anything, but they struggled somewhat without them.  GB may very well clean our clock and others, but to do so they will have to replace some very dynamic pieces.  I have heard Harriman, Midway, Oneida, and Coalfield have all got several quality players returning and they were all pretty successful this year?  Trust me on this:  We are all very aware that you don't sleep on GB!

Gonna be a fun region and it wouldn't surprise me to see a sweep of region 1 when the playoffs start. Cloudland returns some really good skill players but they also lose a bunch of quality players. It really depends on the Concord team, they might come out fighting in their 1st season.

Seems like everyone is picking Peabody, I'll go against the grain and take UC. They may not be quite as good next year but they had room for error. I'd also say the top five would all come from the west side. The East is mostly rural schools with limited talent.

SP won a few times verses TC, but SP don't have 10 titles, and TC beat the best SP team in my opinion the one Eddie Moore played on. TC would have had 12 titles if they hadn't moved up to 3a and lost in two stright 3a semi finals to Austin East, and Fulton(in over time).

Trousdale had to move up because of enrollment during those years. Just be glad Fulton then wasn't Fulton now. That bunch is lethal.

I agree there is potential, but to be honest its going to be extremly hard to replace Anderson and Laforce. We all seen what happened when we didnt rely on them in the mojority of games and what happened when we did,not to mention one of the best LB's we have ever had three yr starter 140 tackkes this yr alone and 4 picks. Those three are really good players. The line will all be back but the center but the line just wasnt very good, another yr should make a difference with Lyles i think he does a great job with what he has.If #8 can get some confidence early in the spring his arm could make up the difference IF he can get time. The backfield will be solid again just not as fast and elusive. The freshman tailback Gilbert will be a special player and the incoming Freshmen will make an immediate impact.I am very excited about the potential but after the past three seasons i will have to see it to believe it from now on,with the teams moving down this uocoming 1A season will be much harder for the small schools.Good luck to the boy and the rest of the team i will be watching in the spring.I hope they continue the great work ethic they have had in the prior offseasons.WTD!

Understood! All #8 needs is to see the field. I get what you are saying but confidence has never been his issue. Played with confidence most his life. He's used to getting rushed has done that all his life too, lol! Still the best line he's ever played behind. Repetition and getting in a rhythm is what he needs. He can't throw enough this offseason with potential receivers. Timing is everything! And yes 1A ball just got a lot harder but not impossible. The team that wants it the most and works the hardest will advance in the East. As usual crucial that all stays healthy. Ready for Freshman to contribute in any way. Spring practice will give us a clue where the 2015 Cherokees are at. Line play is going to be crucial. Just need 3 seconds!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
