On a Whitehaven player from the past note:

I was wondering what is going on with Darrius Sims over at Vandy so I did some googling and from what I can discern, the Vandy coaches are beginning to see how dynamically talented Mr. Sims actually is. At first, when I looked at the Vandy 2015 Spring Depth Chart, I began to think they were out of their mind when I saw where they had him placed as far as being a starting corner. They didn't have him starting and I'm like ... either he's been injured or they aren't seeing the big picture.

Then I read the Athlon article written back in March and it all became clear. They are trying to get him on the field and get him the ball. He's to become a RB. He's their designated KR and back-up PR. He's also a DB in the nickel package. Quite frankly, they see so many possibilities with him, they really don't know what to do ... they just want him to have the chance to make plays ... because that's what he does.

I plan on keeping my eyes on Vandy this year just to see what the coaches come up with.

Yea kdub I see him in M'boro at the meet and he told me they moved him to offense. He'll be like a percy harvin...do everything back. They want to get him the ball so he can make plays which is where he wants to be anyway. ...if they do that, watch out SEC, mr Sims is gonna show out!!!!!

That's what I figured. They probably are going to put him in the backfield as a pass catching RB, or slide him into the slot and hit him with quick passes and end around type plays. I bet they still want to play him in the nickel package because he reads the QB's eyes so well. Heck he had a pick six last year. Add to that the fact that he's the KR and back-up PR ... they definately know what/who they have in Mr. Sims. He's going to be all over the field.

BHS insisted on calling him Black Magic. I liked calling him Prime Time. Either way ... he's SPECIAL.

If he is referring to our new QB, this is a transfer from southwind not havenview... he came over after their season was over....we will have a nice group coming in from various middle schools which could be a group like the classes of 2011 and 2012...so you know what that means

The way I'm understanding it BHS is not talking about the transfer QB, but an incoming freshman.

I heard we got a little Cam Newton that's 6'3" 185 coming from somewhere out east, not Havenview...

A 6'-3" baby Cam you say? It's been my observation that if this young man is as good as advertised ... Coach Dillard is going to probably have him learn the offense by having him play the WR position his freshman year. I can also see Coach Harmon utilizing him as he does Donte or in the Nickle somewhere. Either way ... if he's as good as advertised ... he'll get on the field.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
