This is an interesting topic. Does anybody see any problems with Oak Ridge's helmet's " OR "

Now, I believe college and pro teams have the legal right to protect their material' HOWEVER, get real and leave high schools alone. A lot of high schools barely keep their financial heads above water. Pro teams are filthy rich. A lot pf their income comes from purchases of merch made by high school fans. To a lesser degree the colleges also make money off of high school fans.

The bottom line is college and pro teams will try and make as much as they can and high schools are just going to have to be more creative.

My stick up the butt is high schools who copy fight songs. Oak Ridge's was written back in the 1940s when  the school was born.

Willie, what if I took the iconic OR football helmet logo and used it for a new team or for profit? Copyright protection goes both ways. Maryville needs to protect their brand better. Kroger and other stores sell them like crazy. Then you have Alcoa, which has a new Tornado logo, and they didn't all get the memo that that is the new tornado logo. I've seen different sports with generic tornado art since the new logo was unveiled.

I see your point. I will admit the first time I saw Rockwood's helmets it made me a little uneasy. Their " R " inside a football shape looks like Oak Ridge's  " R " inside a football shape. Then, I thought it doesn't matter since OR and Rockwood rarely compete in any sport. Let them have their " R. "

Now if some team I hate takes anything from Oak Ridge then bloody war is declared   You hear me all the schools not spelled " Oak Ridge. " I'm watching you! LOL

Before anybody brings it up, the Gallatin “G” and the Packer “G” are not the same.  Gallatin actually got the right to use the current “G”  back in the early 70’s but had a “G” on the helmet since the 60’s.

Ahhh, strike first. Smart move GWAVE1. Now, doesn't Germantown have a " G " that is similar to other teams " G " ?

I really do  love this topic.

Not sure.

I recently read an article about how the Packer, Georgia, and Grambling G’s are different and each get to use them.  I know Gallatin’s uses the same as a high school in Georgia.  Can’t remember the team though.

    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
