Was not able to make the oz wartburg game just read the paper  is wartburg playing really well or did oz have a bad night

wartburg at home can be tough at times. And to be honest, OS is just not that good...good enough to stay competitive on some nights when shots are falling at a high rate, but decidedly 4th overall in district. With the district tourney always being at WB, this wartburg team is decent enough, they have a shot in the district tournament. Huge advantage for them this year. Some years it doesn't matter cause they aren't good enough... But this year, they're decent enough that home court COULD get them through. I'm not sure why the other MC teams won't send it to Oneida or jellico some yrs... I think they're both big enough to meet the size rule.

We are about the wrap up the regular season, so changing the pace a little bit, who do you think is the MVP of each district and top players (all district team)?

I haven't seen everyone in d3. But as far as 4 goes. The McKinney kid at CF is hands downs the best overall player. Very good in every aspect of the game. Bet he's averaging close to a triple double. Smith is really good at OD and will probably win MVP because they're the best team. But McKinney is the best player... By a good bit... Best all around player I've seen in several years in the district, especially as a 10th grader.

Top 6: OD-smith, j. hicks, CF- McKinney, WB-Carroll, fountain, OS-Murray...

When you look at individual player's consistency and not based on record I feel you have to put the Murray kid over Parker; Murray carries that whole team especially when they played us and from what I have heard, in other district games as well (40pts against WB). Parker is a great ball player, but has the help of a lot better role players. Using the terms "hands down" & "by a good bit" are kinda asinine if you look at the whole picture of what one player does for his team plus the Murray kid is a senior which should play a role in their decision making. Now this is just one opinion so don't get all upset. Parker will dominate 4a over the next two years; however I'm pretty sure there has not been a team to keep Murray from getting a double/double every game this season (we sure tried) and that is with every team's coach focusing their defense around stopping him.

Harriman didnt shoot any better from the line than Meigs did!

actually they did. Zy alone missed 7 free throws and a front end. We left 16 points at the line. And Meigs didn't shoot well from 3 either. Overall it was a very sloppy game. And with #11 being out he's a very good rebounder and defender and a big part of Meigs basketball team. But good teams find a way to win. This very easily could of been a 20 pt win. But you gotta give Harriman a lot of credit. Pace is an absolute player. And I firmly believe #15 should shoot a lot more than he did. He hit a few shots that kept Harriman in it and had the best looking shot from the outside on the team

yea, I hear what you're saying... I had some of the same thoughts considering murray's overall team... 3 reasons I saw against it: in 2 games against CF, McKinney was the better of the two in both games (taking nothing from Murray, he's a good one to watch...). #2, OS is way below .500 on the season... If they were battling for 1st or even 2nd...I'd think differently. Doesn't mean mvp HAS to be on top team IF he's best player... Just often a factor. #3...you're correct CF has better role players... I would argue They're even better with McKinney on court getting easy buckets for them stretching the floor and passing them open. Like I said, I bet he's averaging nearly a triple double on the season. I wouldn't be upset if Murray gets it, he's certainly played well. I expect smith to get it...he's deserving as well. Against the other top 4 teams, PM was the best player on the floor in each...( and his team lost 3 of the six) which is why smith likely gets it.

GCA played pretty good against a really good Webb team. We lost 52-43 but it was 43-43 with 4 mins left and GCA ran out of gas. This was a huge improvement over the 40pt loss we had in the first game vs Webb. GCA is improving and I think we will be a tough post season team for most 2A and 1A teams to deal with.

Proud of our guys! We have lost more than we should have this year but I will put our schedule outside the district up against anyone. Lets hope it pays off come crunch time.

I caught the score earlier and was thinking that was a huge improvement from the last game. I would think that would really give your team confidence that they have improved! And as far as the schedule , I agree you guys have played some big dogs! One of those big dogs will be up that way Friday !! Good luck to you guys!

Solid take on the game. If it's of any help, we too shot very poorly from the floor. Hopefully you'll get to see us at our best come Tuesday and we can pull out the W! I have no doubts that this team can compete and win games against the best of them and I'm ready to see them prove that!

I like the MVP race this season. Smith, Murray and McKinney can all make a case. I don't think their team's record should have an effect. This is the PLAYER of the year, not team. Can't hold a bad team against a player. I honestly don't know who I would take, but if Murray loses it solely because of the performance of his teammates, that's just wrong.

Not that it matters , but with a rematch coming up Tuesday here's some numbers from Friday's game

fg % Meigs 35% Harriman 38%

3pt%. Meigs 25% Harriman 12%

ft %. Meigs 55% Harriman 53%

TO. Meigs 8. Harriman 15

Pts off TO Meigs 21 Harriman 6

Not sure what is the normal % for Harriman but these numbers are definitely below what Meigs normally shoots, some of the numbers are a reflection of Harrimans defense , a lot were just good looks not falling! I predict Meigs shoots a lot better Tuesday and Harriman has 20+ turnovers and Meigs wins by 20! GO TIGERS

I'm a stats man myself so I love seeing breakdowns of a game like this! Those numbers are definitely below our normal average. Hopefully we can shoot better from behind the arc and at the stripe Tuesday! I most definitely hope we don't come out and drop 20 turnovers because it will be almost impossible to win with that many turnovers. I'm going a little different prediction on this one. I think the big floor and a better shooting night plays to our advantage and we knock off the district front runner, Meigs County! Looking forward to it TFL and hoping for an injury free game. By the way, I hope and pray for your guys that were out due to injury. I hope they're able to bounce back and get into action here soon. There's nothing harder than watching a game from the sidelines injured and knowing there's nothing you can do to help your teammates!

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
