5A - can anyone stop Indy ?

Recommended Posts

Centennial played a pretty tough out of conference schedule and won two of the three.  They beat  6A Franklin (7-3), gave 9-1 Ravenwood (6-A) their only loss and took it on the chin from undefeated Independence.

Good schedule and season for Centennial. The Henry County win is impressive.

That could develop into a good rivalry.

If Maryville would have stayed in 5A instead of opting up to play with the big boys in 6A they might have met Centennial in Cookeville. The winner could then schedule Notre Dame or Alabama or some other "out of state powerhouse".

I think they should start with Vandy.  On a neutral field, Vegas might have Maryville as a slight favorite.

I knew the offense would score this year

But surprised how dominant they have been on both sides of the ball - The defense is just plain nasty and can anyone slow the Eagles down on offense ? The road will be tough with some very strong teams in their path .... Tough draw with Cane Ridge then looks like HHS round 2

It will be fun - good luck Indy........

Highlight was 49-6 win over CHS

42.1 - PPG

10.2 - PPA

In 5 of those games 2nd team started 2nd half ...

Opponents won 57 games ( only faced 3 teams with losing record )

Indy with backup QB beat Smyrna, Stewart's Creek and Lincoln Co etc....

Indy has produced 2004 yds rushing

Total yards game 454 average ....

WR Nate Johnson 17 receiving TD's

QB Bunch in only 5 games in which 3 he was pulled at halftime was a mind boggling

96 -140 - 1942 - 19 - 2 - 664%

and 14 -128 on the ground for 9.1 average

Starter since sophomore year has grasp of Blades offense and has close to 6,000 career yards passing .....

If you listen to my preseason show, I had them in Cookeville.  Nothing has happened to change that opinion.

Big boys

Would say 5a has better teams than 6a this year

And Centennial would have to get past Indy and last time they met some 8 weeks ago Indy beat them by 40 plus points ......

Of course you would say that....

Maybe Indy will play up to 6A next year, beat the not so big boys and then schedule an "out of state powerhouse".

It's valid point 5a is stronger then 6a this year

Indy unlike MHS does not hide - state champion runner up few year back they played Brentwood Acadamy & MBA ... Last few years - played Oakland home and home - Blackman home and home - year MHS beat Seigal at state Indy played Seigal ( all non district games )

Played home and home versus Beech during Jalen Hurd years another non district team....

Recall asked coach Gilligan " smitty " why MBA and BA his reply we want to play the best .........

    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
