Jealousy? Far from it -

Does the truth of you avoiding top teams ever get old ?

Sure walk thru the cupcake schedule like always , make your excuses why you won't play an MBA or out of state powerhouse

Yup your right I'm jealous because of your team being a coward and I can't see how Tn teams match up versus a KY or OH team

Let alone in state private school .....

I know a region 4AAAAA team that's not afraid of the top tier schools.  Rhea County's Golden Eagles went toe to toe with Baylor out of Chattanooga.  We also gave a top notch private school from Indiana a try (Cathedral), although we got our tail feathers handed to us.

-Maryville does have that annual hard game against Alcoa (LOL!!!).  We may win AAAAA, we may not, but at least we are not afraid of tougher competition.

You won't win 5A.

Look I respect the program and GQ tremendously I mean look at what they have done ....

To me a football fan I want to see them play the best , is that not what we crave ?

It's routine , it's boring watching them go thru the regular season ( minus Alcoa game )

Now they have playoff games against a zero or one team opponent ?

Heck only time they face a challenge is semi or title game ...

Would it be fun to see them play a BA, MBA , Ensworth or a Kentucky powerhouse ?

The usual suspects of MHS on here will cry and say why should we , we won't make money , why subject the team for a day or overnight travel ?

All excuses ...

Now back to the thread and will hold onto my predictions till Thursday

Ten games in a regular season.

Seven district games and I'm pretty sure TSSAA won't let you opt out of

those cupcake games. Maryville's three open games were Fulton (defending state champion, currently ranked first in 4A, one loss this season to Maryville), Alcoa,( currently ranked first in 3A, one loss this season to Maryville), and Heritage, a county rival. Got anyone in the state playing a better schedule? Got anyone in the state playing a better schedule and scheduling an "out of state powerhouse"? Maybe they could do a preseason scrimmage against

another "powerhouse" like the one they have done with Ensworth the past few seasons.

The comment about the playoffs is absurd. Do you really think that was

scheduled?

Centennial played a pretty tough out of conference schedule and won two of the three.  They beat  6A Franklin (7-3), gave 9-1 Ravenwood (6-A) their only loss and took it on the chin from undefeated Independence.

I agree with that, however, both of those schools are in the same county and were traditional games.

That does not take anything away from Centennial, they are a great team this year and building a great program.

    • What you are saying is true about high school athletics being a privilege and not a right, but NO ONE ever knows what will happen if a case goes before a jury.  Again, I have been in a couple of jury rooms and it's always a little crazy.  That is why my prediction is you will see a settlement before the case goes to trial.
    • What rules does everyone not operate by?
    • So you want a have and have not split? Sound like the perfect ramp to elitism. Tell those rural kids that they'll never be able to compete with those urban kids. They're not good enough right? Or we could just do what travel baseball does and have tournaments every weekend and give kids big fake rings for winning a few games. The suburban public schools are typically the ones with more funds. Urban and rural schools have more in common in finances than they do with rural schools. I've taught and coached in all of it. The difference is attitude. But if you're jsut going to say you can't compete because you don't have the money then that's an excuse. Especially in basketball. The balls are the same size, the rims are the same height and size. The ball dribbles the same in some rural gym in mountains as it does in the FedEx forum. Charters come and go like a fart in the wind. They are no real threat to anyone. Magnets could be but rarely do they win either. It just hasn't been seen in Tennessee.
    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
