3a region 4 2016

Recommended Posts

The U goes with Livingston, Rockwood, and Oneida tomorrow. Go to East Nashville next week. Who does everyone else have lined up for pre-season?

YAI is going to Grace Christian tomorrow. I've heard Cumberland county, Jackson county and Scott county are scheduled at some point in preseason.

Watched the UHS, LA, Rockwood, and Onieda scrimmage. Looked to me UHS was the best of the four. LA was second best but much weaker than the past few years. UHS has a good new running back with some power and speed, and a big OL and DL. Looks like they changec the offense up to a more power run type spread offense.. QB struggled some but made a few good throws and had some good runs. Bees have some good RB's and H-backs......also very good line backers. This isnt the 2013 Bees....but should be in top three in the district based on what I see.

UHS and LA were pretty even, slight edge to the Bees.  Don't recall seeing Hayes for LA, but didn't think he graduated.  RHS and OHS were behind these two.  UHS offense has improved since the Spring.  Some good gains, but mostly sustained drives.  One series, used all ten plays to score.  Next series, scored four times in ten plays.  Defense was solid.  Gave up some yards first time against the veer, but corrected and didn't give up much more.  LA DL is big, all four looked to be 250+.  Defense looked to be ahead of the offense as expected this early.  Rockwood has some playmakers, especially the tall RB with a long stride.  Not sure what region they're in, but would expect them to do well.  Oneida looked like they may be young.

Sequatchie D will be the strong point. Have 2 great linebackers, but need to work on pass D. Our run D will be very physical. Our O will be alright but won't be like last year even though we will have a good qb and a quick back who didn't play last year. I say we finish 3 or 4 in district.

    • Anyone know how the scrimmage at Central went?
    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
    • Sounds like you know your area history well. Going back and looking the records were better than I thought but mostly still beating Upper East TN schools. Ballard sounds like he came/was promoted at the right time.    I do think it’s no coincidence that them keeping the HCs as guys who were former guys on the staff. Too many times schools want a “state championship” leveled coach from the outside but they don’t know the landscape. Promoting from within will help with less turnover and keep the program consistent.
