One thing I don't understand is everyone is up in arms over what happened BEFORE the crime.

Let's prosecute whoever is responsible to the fullest extent of the law. I'm all for that. Let go of the Coach and/or AD for how the situation was handled after the fact, I can see that too. But comments along the lines of "they should have never been in a room with upper classmen" and "why weren't there adults in the room with them" and "the AD should have known how the kids would be roomed" are just leaving me baffled.

When we went on trips like this, we picked our roommates. Upper classmen, under classmen, it didn't matter. We were all friends and on a team together. Age didn't matter. And we never used a pool cue on anyone for any reason.

And out coaches did room checks periodically, but at no time was there ever an adult in every room supervising all the time. And nothing ever happend aside from one 30 second scuffle and sometimes being too loud after lights out.

And I can 100% garantee you our AD never once knew who was roomed with who. Ever. And we all came back home just fine.

I guess what I am saying is if you want to can the coach and/or AD for how they handled everything after the fact, go at it. But when it boils down to it, what happened happened simply because a few cruel young men decided to do this awful crime to that poor kid. Nothing more, nothing less. If the administration would have had an idea this would have happened BEFOREHAND, it would have been nipped in the bud, that I am sure of. Just the sad thing of this world is that random acts of cruelness can and will happen for no good reason at all.

I had to think long and hard before I posted what I did.We went of football camp and we roomed with our buddies also and we did stupid things, but this day in age look around.Things are so different some kids respect no one and especially authority.Read the paper everyday,it gets worse and worse and you have to keep an eye on everything you possibly can.I know you can't police every one but in this situation I think you just can't let the inmates run the prison anymore.I have also read these boys have been bullying others kids on other occasions,so why are they allowed to be alone with an underclassmen???!There is no respect for what's right So I do agree with a lot you say but considering what goes on on a daily basis in this sick world we live in now I do think these and all teenagers in these type circumstances need supervision. That's just my opinion.

In my opinion the boy's parents need to be held accountable as well. This is where your right and wrong is suppose to be taught.....at home.

Until who knew what and when then only thing we can do is speculate. We don't have the answers. I do believe in praying for all involved. Including those who will hand out the punishment. Heres why not because I'm Liberal but I would like the judge to not just let them off easy. I'd like to see the punishment fit the crime. That's not a guarantee . Yes I'd pray for the ones at fault. Not to let them off but because I'm supposed to pray for those who sin and even if they spend the rest of their lives in jail then that's what their punishment is I should pray they change here's why there's a good chance they do get off easier then they should. So I'll pray they change and never do anything like that again . Being angry is normal. But until who knew what and when how do you even know who to punish. If there was an attempt at a cover up then let it be revealed. Yeah I'd pray for that also. I have no ability to punish or judge anyone on here either for their statements or anyone involved . I can voice my concerns to those in charge in our school systems . So in this matter all I can have done and will do is pray.

??? Really ??? No clear cut answer ???

this isn't that complicated,  there are clear cut answers. 1) coach and AD - GONE. 2) Basketball GONE - 5yrs at least.  3) Forget praying for the guilty, victim is the only one needing prayers.4) Pray the guilty get punished and the rest of society gets protected from them, at least for a while.

My sympathy isn't with the coach it is with the victim. Instead of just praying that " nothing like this ever happens at your children's school " Let's send a clear message. IT BETTER NOT HAPPEN AT YOUR SCHOOL , IF IT DOES HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT... and make it so painful it prompts somebody to pay attention.

I can see you're upset but blaming society for these animals is a bit like the moronic " affluenza " defense used by the piece of garbage who ran over 4 people and his worthless mother who were just picked up in Mexico after trying to avoid any accountability and punishment for the crime.

UNREAL they continued to play in tis tournament!!! The season for them should be OVER...OVER!! Rick Smith ..you need to stop this NOW!! You havbe that power. End their season. Look at this kid. Uou cant tell me the other players didn't know of this. And NO ONE came to defend this kid!!

I don't think you can say all the other players would of known what was going on. When we went on these trips we had 3-4 players in a room and I had no idea what was going on in anyone else's room. This is why I'm hesitant to say you should shut down the entire program for a number of years. Punishing innoncent gets nothing done. Punish the ones who did it.

I'm going to tell you all why they need to cancel the rest of the season. Everyone now has a picture of this team and when they show up to play a game people are going to go through the process of elimination to figure out who all were involved sad to say.  I could give a hoot less about the three buzzards that committed this horrible act but my heart goes out for the victim of the cruel act and his privacy. Please do the right thing to protect even those on the team that will have to put up with insults slung their way all season while being totally innocent. I have nothing to gain by suggesting this and would be one of the first if this happened at my school to say shut down shop.

I guess that's probably true.

I don't think it's true at all. T$$AA has say in everything sports related. Plenty of idiotic rules on all kinds of issues, just so they can flex their power muscle. I just can't believe they continue to turn a blind eye here, a case where obviously the school has failed to provide any leadership and desperately needs a third party to take over. This may turn out to get far bigger than it is now and T$$AA may soon have some " splaining " to do too. I know if I were governor of this state there would be ####es getting barbequed right this second and I wouldn't be waiting for any holidays to get over with to take action. The fact this team wasn't yanked out of tournament as soon as ANYBODY knew about this perverted incident is grounds for several immediate dismissals and the number should grow from there.

I've had my say on this sad situation. My last word :

There is a " fund me " link to help the victim's family, which my family found and used, and I would ask some here to consider doing the same. No doubt there will be a settlement of some sort for this poor kid and his Mom but it could take years for them to see any money. It looks like they could use some help now.

Well said!! Too many times we slap on the hand. They need to bring the hammer down. They need to shut down the program, investigate the situation, the coaches, the rest of the team, and anybody else involved. Criminal charges should be handed down to anyone involved.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
