AD reported to CAK football families a couple of days ago that the initial inquiry stage is over and they've narrowed the field to a handful of candidates for full interviews and the goal is to have a coach in place before spring break, which for CAK I think comes about the second or third week of March. My guess is he'll try to move even quicker than that if he can.

Who are the candidates?

Not surprisingly, in the report the AD didn't name names, so I don't know who the official candidates are.  I have heard a few names but don't know if the rumors are true or not.  But I haven't heard any names who haven't already been mentioned in various posts on this thread, such as Witten, Price, etc. I still think there's a possibility we'll see someone the AD knows from his days in Atlanta end up in the mix as well, but maybe not. It's also possible there's some other local coach whose name hasn't been mentioned on this thread who ends up in the mix as well.

Don't think the Prices are involved at this time. 

 

Still hearing Witten as a viable candidate, as well as a couple of out of state candidates. 

 

Bottom line - they need to up the $$$ number they are telling candidates the job will pay if they are going to get a proved and quality coach.

Might surprise me but I don't see Witten leaving the secure/comfortable situation he is in and uprooting it all for that price.

If your getting turned down by local assistant coaches you better be getting your pay structure straightened out or your next step will be looking at junior high coaches.

That was my initial thought, too, but I am being told that he has serious interest.  

 

He has had interest in a couple of other jobs in the Knoxville area over the last couple of years, and that coming from sources in UET and Knoxville.  Wouldn't shock me to see him end up in this area when the right job comes along.  Don't know if the CAK job is that right job or not, but as I said I am being told there is interest there.
