Future of Grundy County

Knowing one of the Whitwell coaches really well...your word on the street is wrong you are hearing...you must live on a dead end street. Our Director of Schools and the AD have contacted Marion County--GC does not want to schedule MC. School board should make them play and if not MC should refuse to play GC in all little league, etc. Word also on the street is our school board is getting to the bottom of this & some lies on our end are being told. I talked with the mothers best friend. She is moving and her son is going with her even though Tate plans to move him in with him..that's a violation. The mother has gone to various schools to see where they are moving. I believe we should also be punished as well bc our player went to these schools. If I coached I would be upset with our student athlete going to these schools. What can MC schools do with our kid? He might can start at Whitwell. but he's not the caliber of SP or MC to start or get much playing.Tate is doing this to pick up weaker teams in 1a so his job can be saved. The thing is we will struggle with most A schools. The recruiting thing needs to be dropped. When you've got coaches from Whitwell and SP saying it's crazy Marion got punished--then we don't need to get excited about our kids wanting to leave and still bringing it up.

I haven't heard anything. My son graduated so I have no clue. I have many friends up on the mtn. Would love for gc to get back to being competitive in football. I keep of hearing of a name that they want to offer the job to. If he gets the job kids will play for him and will win. He could get kids out of hall way and onto the field. Hope he gets the job. Time for a change on the mtn

I've heard a name that keeps popping up too, if it's true, Grundy would be competitive.

Coach colquette was the best football coach that came to the mountain he had 2 winning seasons and one .500 season that being said he never had more then 30 players on the team. You could bring Paul bear Bryant himself or butch jones up here on the mountain and you would get the same Reilly's that you got now. Maybe a couple winning seasons then back to .500 or less

I was using an example of it doesn't matter how many championships a man has it doesn't mean that the kids will fly outta the hallways to go play ball for him..colquette had 4 championships and they didn't flock to him. Heck the head coach from maryville, Alcoa, or ravenwood could show up at the high school and they would still get the same results. It's the same 30 or so families that have supplied the football team with players..only way you could get more players is to get more families on the mountain that have an interest in playing ball and the only way that's gonna happen is by having jobs up here and that's what we lack..

I agree. Who ever coaches grundy will have to win with 30 something maybe mid 40's, because the kids don't care about football like other schools. I'm sure more will come out if they're winning.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
