OAK RIDGE 2017 FOOTBALL

I have to drive through Oak Ridge periodically, and today I was going through town at a little after 4:00 when I saw that practice was going on. I stopped over on the swimming pool side and watched for a couple of minutes before I had to go. I saw Graham doing relay practice. He has a distinctive running style that's easy to spot. There were a lot of other fast kids out there that I didn't know, a lot of guys that looked really fast. Any of them playing football in the fall? There were a lot of kids out there.

Jordan & Tre are the only ones I know of.

Name the OR legends on this Woodland Mustang's Boy's Club team in the early 80's16729178_1680246918781895_32869733260005

Well, I am guessing these are the boys who would grow up to be on the 1991 State Champions so could we be looking at Summers. Thrift, Turner and Booker?

This is fun so don't tell the answer right away give more people time to guess.

I sure wish I had one of the team pictures I was in from Cedar Hill Elementary School. The guys I played with were back ups on the 1979 and 1980 State Champions. I didn't go to Cedar Hill, I attended St. Mary's but was zoned for  CHES.

BUMP

... with so many of you going to all the recent tournament basketball games, you must have heard something about how the football team is doing. If you have information that you can post please do, I am dying down here in Chattanooga for info.

What I heard at the game last night was that they recently tested on all the lifts and many players made some great gains in strength. Also, they're feeding them some sandwiches on certain days and some have gotten bigger. I know two things for sure...we have breakaway speed and we need linemen!!!!!!

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
