Delusional. I have been well educated in the practices of Columbia Academy sports over the last 50 years. Living in Maury Co. all my life, I can tell you right away if you believe this I need to sell you some property. Why do you think there was a push by the county schools to stop scheduling them in sports? Wasn't because of school colors or anything like that.

I dont have a real horse in the race, just cant stand CA sympathizers saying stuff out the sides of there mouth that sounds more like it should be coming out of their back side. I have seen them play a couple of games, and they are pretty good. I wanted to get to see LC, so I watched some hudl, I think you need to give them some credit. They look to be a solid 2A team, and should win this game. What do I know, we dont play football in Cully. Cant wait for basketball season.

Agreed Cully, watched CA lose the state championship to Perry County in basketball one year when over half of the starters were from Lewis County, some of the same kids that won the middle school state championship while playing at LC.

I'm not trying to poke nobody, but one can't help but notice that up until the change CA had 50+ players on their  Jr High team. They are now on the HS team. This year I counted about 18 players on the Jr High team.  This is not due to a bad cycle it's because they can't be brought in as freely.

You don't know what you're talking about. Why don't you present some facts?  You can't because you have none.

The facts are when CA could bring players in from Giles/Hickman/Lewis/Other surrounding countries and all of Maury and give them aide or work study or hire a relative they had a large number of good players. When they can't they have few numbers. 18 vs 50+ kind of days it all. When those players finish HS they will fall off or find a loop hole to bring more in.

CA had 19 on their roster when they played at Lewis County a few weeks ago. When we have met in the MS championships the last 3 years we have seen there numbers DRASTICALLY decreased.

Asking for proof, there were meetings held with coaches and athletic directors from all Maury County public schools with the sole purpose of addressing the issues surrounding exactly what has been discussed here. Heck, you have numbers hanging from the rafters of your gym of kids that went to middle school in Lewis County and wound up at CA.

As for the Jr High numbers this year, it's just one of those things that happen at every school. Some grades have more players than others. The school had another record enrollment number this year. There hasn't been a decline overall. Some grades have numbers and others don't.

As for the kids from other counties playing at CA, that rule was broken? If CA follows the rules set forth by the TSSAA for staying in Division 1 then... What? If a parent decides they want to send their kid to CA then that's an option everyone has.

It's not like public schools and their athletes aren't doing the same thing. I know for a fact that there are a number of kids playing sports at current public schools inside Maury County and are zoned for other schools inside the county that have the exact same sports. Cullycutter, an athlete that played sports in your elementary & middle school is now playing a sport at Central and Cully has this sport. I can name kids at Mt. Pleasant, Hampshire, Central, Richland, etc...  that are playing school sports out of zone that their own school has!

As for the out of county thing with CA, there are a number of kids that live outside Maury County that are paying a fee to attend public schools inside Maury County. I know one kid at Richland that lives in the middle of Columbia!

I say all that to say... If it's legal for these public school under TSSAA rules then it's fine! But don't go throwing stones at CA when there are public schools / athletes in almost every public school in our district doing the exact same thing that these coaches and admins are meeting about.

Again... if CA or any school is breaking TSSAA rules, then report them!

What does CA's district basketball schedule look like this year?

    • What you are saying is true about high school athletics being a privilege and not a right, but NO ONE ever knows what will happen if a case goes before a jury.  Again, I have been in a couple of jury rooms and it's always a little crazy.  That is why my prediction is you will see a settlement before the case goes to trial.
    • What rules does everyone not operate by?
    • So you want a have and have not split? Sound like the perfect ramp to elitism. Tell those rural kids that they'll never be able to compete with those urban kids. They're not good enough right? Or we could just do what travel baseball does and have tournaments every weekend and give kids big fake rings for winning a few games. The suburban public schools are typically the ones with more funds. Urban and rural schools have more in common in finances than they do with rural schools. I've taught and coached in all of it. The difference is attitude. But if you're jsut going to say you can't compete because you don't have the money then that's an excuse. Especially in basketball. The balls are the same size, the rims are the same height and size. The ball dribbles the same in some rural gym in mountains as it does in the FedEx forum. Charters come and go like a fart in the wind. They are no real threat to anyone. Magnets could be but rarely do they win either. It just hasn't been seen in Tennessee.
    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
