Two really good games tonight at Bearden High School. In the first game, I don't know if anyone had a lead of more than about 4 points in the 2nd half between Powell and Maryville. Both teams were stuck on 48 for a while and then went to overtime at 55. I kept waiting for Maryville to take the lead and pull away and they never did. Joe Anderson hit a huge 3 to tie it with about 3 seconds left. (I think you have to foul in that situation) #32, Tripp, played huge for Powell and I thought #4, Giles, had a great game for Maryville. But the name of the game is survive and advance and Powell did just that.

In the 2nd half of the doubleheader, I thought Oak Ridge started really well. They were getting after it defensively and running for easy baskets. Green is such a good coach. He knew everything that Bearden tried to do on offense and was calling plays for easy baskets in the first half. I think Bearden really missed Pember and adjusted to not having him out there. Oak Ridge went up 7 in the first half and Bearden tied it up going into halftime. Bearden adjusted well in the 2nd half and was able to make the plays to win the game. Oak Ridge was in foul trouble all night. Glover gets the headlines for Bearden, but I thought Robinson, Brown and London Stephney played outstanding tonight. Bearden ended up winning by 14, but it was a much closer game than that. I think it was a 4 point game with about 2 minutes left.

The officiating crew for the first game I thought was great. Not so much in game 2...and I'm a Bearden supporter. Inconsistency at both ends and at one point in the 2nd half Oak Ridge was called for 4 consecutive fouls. You could kind of feel the game turning. It just seemed that the refs tried to assert themselves too much. I was sitting behind the scorer's table and even the demeanor of the two crews was vastly different.

Region semifinals is always the best atmosphere all season. 4 great teams with fan bases/communities that come and support their boys.

Powell @ Bearden Thursday night at 7:00

Highly agree in the Pember, Brown and Robinson comments.

Good luck to both Bearden and Powell tonight in the Region 2AAA finals!

Thinking it'll be close and back and forth through 1Q, Bearden will be up by 6-8 at half and will eventually win by 15 give or more.  On the flip side, I don't think Science Hill will beat DB. That'll be Powell @ DB and Science Hill @ Bearden in the sectionals for a rematch of last years sectional (Bearden also won that last year).

I am terrible at picking games but Bearden can call the score tonight. Unless they are just a talented but no discipline team.

Always half right. Usually when I pick Bearden. You're right, have not seen Science Hill play, but have seen DB play. Good luck to all the teams Monday night. These games are getting good!

Powell played much better ball down the stretch than earlier this season.  SH will have to score more than 40 to beat them.  Bearden should handle DB for their 2nd straight trip to State.

Bearden should beat DB. I'd say fairly easily too. I think SH/Powell will be a much closer game. SH will have the advantage playing at home but this type of stage will be a first for most of their team. I'm not sure a lot of people realize just how young SH's team is. They only have 4 seniors, 3 of whom only see significant minutes. The inexperience has lead to a very up and down season for them. The same can be said for DB.

    • We played South Side this summer and it went into OT and we lost on a last second shot. I thought our girls handled their pressure as well as we have in a while and that is the reason I think we will have a really good ball handling team. South Gibson will have their hands full with Dyersburg and South Gibson has never beat South Side. Back to what I was saying South Gibson needs another ball handler especially if they have to play South Side in a do or die game and handle their pressure. As far as who wins our Region, it will be must see basketball for sure and like I said I like our team. I like your team as well. Huntingdon is loaded 5 in and 5 out and you got a great Junior High Team. Huntingdon Fans are going to have a whole lot of fun the next 5 or 6 years. Loretto is really good this year. I got to watch them in Brentwood. They got a Freshman Guard that can go. Going to be a fun year.
    • After seeing Southside this summer I think they will be better than last season.  Seems that the big three Southside, South Gibson and Dyersburg will be the region favorites once again.  In 2A Gibson County is the favorite in that region with a toss up between Westview and Union City.  I think Memphis Business and Gibson Co will represent the west this season.  I think that Westviews run to glass house may end.
    • South Gibson better get ready to battle in the deep end because South Side and Dyersburg will be a challenge. They will have to beat Dyersburg in the District Finals to avoid South Side in the Region. South Gibson better find another guard that can handle pressure and score to take pressure off of Dunn. They need to learn to score to take it to another level. They scored 29 and only lost by 7 last year at state. As far as Westview and Union City, they will be pretty good but Gibson County might have the best ball handling team we have had in a while this year with four guards on the floor with 3 PG's. We have 3 seniors with tons of experience. I really love this team this year. Looks like Westview lost out to the girl from Florida to USJ. Unless something happens they will have 1 player back with meaningful minutes. I know they will be competitive for sure but they will have their hands full.
    • South Gibson drags you to the deep end and makes you like it. Tough group that communicates and really seems to love competing.  Union City will be improved but don't know how they handle nights were Moss doesn't go off.  South Side is fast and athletic but I don't think they're as good as last year.  Westview girls will be better later in the season because they are depending on folks that haven't done it yet.  Westview may lose a district game but they'll be the 1 seed over UC.  South Gibson beats Dyersburg for that district. South Side runs Jackson again.
    • Jasper got insulted like MASE and SP did.    TOP 10 Division I Class 2A Sch. Rank 1. Milan (13-2) 10 2. Bledsoe County (11-2) 14 3. Marion County (13-2) 19 4. Huntingdon (10-3) 5 5. Westmoreland (10-3) 6 6. York Institute (11-3) 9 7. East Robertson (10-2) 30 8. Fairley (11-1) 43 9. Jackson Central-Merry (9-3) 20 10. Summertown (8-3) 26
