Week 3 Matchups

Columbia Academy (2-0, 0-0) vs. Summertown (2-0, 0-0)

Community (0-2, 0-0) IDLE

Eagleville (1-1, 0-0) at Forrest (1-1, 0-0)

Lewis County (1-1, 0-0) vs. Loretto (0-2, 0-0)

Columbia Academy improved to 2-0 overall after another dominant performance at home against Spring Hill. This week they begin Region 5AA play hosting 2-0 Summertown. Summertown handled Wayne County in Week 2, holding the Wildcats to 8 points. The Bulldogs have won the 3 previous matchups against the Eagles, 2 of those shutouts. Summertown comes in with momentum, looking to make a statement against CA on the road. It has been mentioned that Coach Lansdell has not lost a Region matchup in 5 years, about 30 straight wins versus regional opponents. Tack on another win this week as the Bulldogs are too much for the rising Eagles.

Community lost at home last week to drop to 0-2, and will be off this week to prepare for another non-region matchup next week when they host Region 5A Richland.

Eagleville was shut out for the first time since the 2015 playoffs, as they ran into the buzzsaw that was the 5A Cornersville Bulldogs. This week, the Eagles open Region 5A play as they travel to Forrest. The Rockets bounced back in a big way with a 51-0 drubbing of 5A Fayetteville. Last season’s game ended in a 21-20 Eagleville victory, and this game could prove to be a close one again. Was last week a product of the opponent for both the Bulldogs and the Rockets? Likely in both instances. Throw predictions and records out in this one, as over the last 15 meeting the Rockets lead the matchup 9-6.

Lewis County looked like a totally different squad from week 1 to week 2, when they were humbled by 6AAA Camden. The Panthers open up Region 5AA play hosting Loretto. The Mustangs have dropped their first 2 games of 2018 for the 3rd straight season. Lewis County has dominated this series this millennium, 14-0 since 2000. The Panthers will be christening newly-named Bobby Sharp field on Friday night, and will open Region 5AA play with a win.

The forecast for this week shows potential for quite a bit of rain, the same as this week last year. I remember that we were fortunate that the sun came out when LC went to Loretto after all the rain from the week leading up. If I remember correctly, CA had a bus get stuck in the parking field at Summertown.

LOL that's correct.  If you didn't have 4 wheel drive it was difficult to get out.  Hopefully, it won't be a problem as the game is at CA this year.

That is the difference between a parking LOT and a parking FIELD. If a bus gets stuck Friday night at CA we have worse to worry about than a high school football game IMO.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
