I just didn’t think it was worth mentioning since they didn’t pass the threshold. So Beech increased 22% but doesn’t hit the 6a mark? And Gallatin sutpassed the 6a threshold but didn’t increase at least 20%? So they both stay 5a? Got it smh

Maryville is not close to being like Hoover, Alabama, Allen, TX, Grayson, GA, Dutch Fork, SC or even Brentwood Academy in Tennessee. This will hurt some peoples feelings but to be considered one of the top teams in the country you must play and defeat one of the top teams in the country. Not trying to be a jerk but what Top 25 team has Maryville played in the past 10 years? Has Maryville ever played a Top 25 team if they were not forced to do so? You have to look carefully at this situation Indian and Commando. The Beech situation is easy. They were one of the smaller 5A schools. Even though they had a substantial increase in enrollment (over 20% according to those on this thread), the total number of current students would not put them in the same enrollment numbers as other 6A schools. In Gallatin's case, they were the largest school in 5A at the last classification process. Let's say the smallest school in 6A only had 10 more students. So if Gallatin's enrollment went up by 11 students, do you think they should have to move up to 6A? If so, then the classifications should be done every two years like it used to be. How about this, put all sports in 3 classes like all other sports and quit giving trophies to everyone. But that's a different thread. The current rule is fine. There isn't any situation that makes everybody happy. That's why we have so many classes. 1

sheppy
Simple process: 1. If we HAVE TO HAVE 6 classes in D-I, take total # of schools and divide by 6. Odd numbers, start with an additional team in 6a, 5a, 4a, until every team is accounted for. 2. D-II, 2 classes, divide equally. NO DECIDING TO MOVE UP!! IF YOU ARE A PRIVATE SCHOOL - YOU GO D-II, E.O.D

All Im saying is Gallatin had 1508 students when the new classes were put into place. They’re listed at 1650 now. Which would’ve pushed them past the 6a number. If the rule is that a school must grow by 20%, that would mean they could still play 5a with 300 more students added to the 1508 of original enrollment. 1800 students and still play in 5a? Just doesn’t seem fair when there’s other 5a programs around the 1100/1200 mark. Edited September 19, 2018 by CommandoBlood100

I personally think 4 public and 2 private is plenty, but someone is always going to be the smallest in a class. If “fair” is the intent, it will never be so. I believe in the name of competition you lower the number of classifications, however the majority of the smaller schools in each class will struggle to be competitive come playoff time. Theres no “right” answer.

IF YOU ARE A PRIVATE SCHOOL - YOU GO D-II, E.O.D Why not go with the following for football, basketball and baseball Eliminate D1 & D2 and place everyone back together. All individual sports (tennis, track & field, wrestling, golf, etc...) will only have one division All schools are placed in a district and only the top 2 teams in the district advance to the playoffs for football. The football state championship games would be on Thanksgiving Day! Teams that have 7 wins and do not qualify for the playoffs will be allowed to participate in a bowl game the Saturday after the regular season ends. Maybe have 5 classes, though. With the privates back in five would work well and allow for some expansion.
Indian
Private schools are not returning. The main man says September 2018 enrollments may be included on the TSSAA website soon, so we can get an idea how it might be in 2 years (plus an idea of how it would be with proper two year classes). Rhea Co.
I have been wondering something. Could a school or two be realigned to another region during reclassification, if another region losses a school because because of moving up or down in classification or going private? Because with Catholic moving to D-II that leaves Region 4-5A with only 4 teams and having to find yet another non-region game.
