I think you meant you wish Middle East could come West and Middle West could go East. When I think about that though it would only benefit one classification and that would be 3A.

LOL....So your vision of athletic is Catholic? They barely beat Oakland (who runs the triple option and that scream "I don't think I have athletes") and it's the same story every year with Fulton they struggle with them early and there size wears them down. Listen you aren't talking to a rookie. They are not having a typical year period. I am not saying they aren't great program. If you really wanna read something into what I am saying understand I am actually giving them high praise. I just believe that 6A is more wide open then in previous years. I think next year it will be closed again to Whitehaven and Maryville because they are both young in some key spots. And that is a negative as far as the state championship. Name me the last team they beat in the state championship that was more athletic than them (and don't say Cane Ridge because they weren't).

Your making yourself look like you truly don't know football.  You say Maryville has Struggled with more Athletic teams but since the TSSAA has moved to 6 classifications in 2009 Maryville has brought the Gold Ball home 5 times and Runner ups 3 times.  Winning a championship has a lot more to it than just having Better Athletes.  On a year to year bases West TN has more athletic teams but still end up getting beat more times than not.  Whitehaven has been more Athletic than them and The Big Red Machine has still brought back the Gold Ball.  The most Athletic teams doesn't equate to the best team and thats at any level.  Being coached up, playing assignment football, working hard in the weight room, etc. can counter Balance a more athletic team. (and by no means am i calling Maryville not athletic because they have there fair share of Athletes, but they also have kids that know how to grind it out and not freeze in a big game or miss an assignment because they have been there before).

Oh that's where you are wrong my friend. I have watched Alcoa. I am truly a high school football enthusiast being that it is my passion. I don't just pay attention to one side of the state or another (hmm mmm). Because I will say that it is safe to say the FridayMainEvent has not and probably will not visit the western part of the state to see the talent. If you think Alcoa or Greenville could play with the likes of Germantown or Whitehaven.....heck even Central high school in Memphis this year. I would say it is time for you to gas your car or RV up and take a trip.  Now are there 3A teams in Memphis that could compete with Alcoa? Absolutely not! And that is because you have to truly know the lay of the land. There are so many high schools in Memphis that the athletes are spread except at the HAVEN where they stockpile talent because where they are located. Is there a 4A team in Memphis that could compete with Greenville? Again NO! Because of the same problem. When you are not in rural West TN you have cities where there is 1 to 3 high schools maybe. There are close to 30 high schools that play football in Memphis (which is too many). In Jackson TN there are 6 I believe (which is too many). Nashville has essentially the same problem. Talk to me about the problem Greenville has again with athletes being pulled for the school to go where? I'll wait. And Alcoa there are very few teams across the state that have those type of 3A numbers in players. The largest 3A school in Memphis MIGHT have 32 to 35 members (notice I said members and not players). So believe me I watch football across the state (the live streams) or go or coach against them in person. Alcoa and Greenville would have a hard time being Lausanne this year. Just being honest.

Most of the West Tennessee football I've seen is post season so I'll give you that.  That long baron drive down I-40 west gets me.  We'll have Coach Saulsberry on our show today.  I do talk to those guys as well.  As someone else said.  We've all got our opinions.

GRx, are you like me and believe that the games between Maryville and Oakland haven't come down to who has the better athletes? In my opinion, those games are generally won by coaching, sheer determination, and a few breaks going one way or the other. Again, just my opinion, but Oakland NEVER looks at the Maryville games and says 'oh yeah.....we have more athletes than they do!! We're gonna win!' It is well known that every game will be a dogfight, coming down to the 3 things I mentioned earlier.

I love how yall ride Maryville. It's funny how yall use Whitehaven as a measuring stick of athleticism coming from the West. They aren't normally the most athletic team in the West. They just know how to pull it out. They are like Maryville in that they tend to be big and stronger than who they schedule. Besides Whitehaven Maryville beat an unathletic Hendersonville team and a young Cane Ridge team. But you also forget to mention that Whitehaven also beat Maryville as well with its athleticism and Whitehaven can even normally throw the ball efficiently.

golly I guess so. i really think this person came on here to troll, which happens so it’s whatever. but it was a poor job lol. every year there’s going to be those certain people that want to see rome fall. its silly.

It also how yall know so much football, but only bring Alcoa and Maryville when talking about football. They are  perennial powers in the state but one struggles with athleticism and the other doesn't. Point Blank point! Let's revisit this post after the Maryville game tonight.

how has maryville struggled with talent when they’ve literally been to every state championship since 2000 minus 2 years ago and has never lost more than 2 games in that span? no one is claiming maryville has the better athletes than out west BUT WHO CARES? numbers don’t lie. go count how many gold balls the West has brought home compared to maryville. I’ll hang up and wait.

If West Tn is so dominant you think they could when the 6A  title with a little more consistency. Some folks are delusional about how good they think certain teams are. If teams were that good, they would have more than 2 or 3 state titles.

Every year a certain team from another area of the state looks unbeatable to the locals or to people that don't understand everything that goes into a winning football program. Those teams usually go home with a silver ball if they even make it that far.

WH couldn't even make it to Cookeville last yr and the team that beat them got mercy ruled by Maryville in the title game.

The 15th game is always the litmus test, everything else is just sour grapes, fantasy opinions.

No one claimed that West TN more dominate that anyone else. Go back and read the whole tread (or have it read to you) before you try to come at me. East TN is who has the superiority complex. I was speaking on Alcoa running through the best 6A teams in the state.

    • So what changed at Greenville from Zeller to Ballard? I assume he was just bringing players in because I never remembered Greenville being good ever until Ballard.    Have you left the coaching profession?
