If you would have said the same thing two years ago you would have been dead wrong because no one saw cornersville making b2b finals and whitwell winning this yr.

That’s your opinion.. We didn’t make that statement at that time because with perennial powers moving up to 2A we didn’t really know who to expect to be good besides Huntingdon.  However, now we have a much clearer picture on the current 1A landscape. Cornersville had a good group of sophomores when they came to SP in 2016. We knew they would much improved, but you are correct I didn’t think they would improve by that much. Both years I figured they were done in the quarterfinals. As for Whitwell, most have said for two years if they were going to ever win it, they better do it.  The teams I mentioned above are the senior loaded teams and I stand by this statement. SP, Greenback, Lake County, Huntingdon. Two of those four will be in Cookeville in 2019.

You are right about those 4 teams and the are the favorites for sure to be in the finals. The freedom prep school Lakecounty1968 talked about could be a school like cornersville. A lot of sophomores coming back with some success and meaningful playing time. And Coach Rice can never be counted out. I played for him and I know how he can get the most out of his players.

I am going to have to back nation up on the Coalfield statement.rt said they return almost everyone and they did improve drastically by the quarters. If we dont watch ourselves up here they could sneak in the back door.

They will be tough next year and our LB play will be better this coming year unless they put ????? At Defensive end. He can play both pretty good.

No I didn’t say that lol. But at LB they will be good. We get two back from this past year and the new additions will be good.

The new additions huh. SP has one new addition that I know of. Apparently he went to school at SP into middle school then went to Marion and now is back. I haven’t heard of any others for the Pirates.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
