Hate to see him go was a great coach was a freshman his first year and after I graduated I started running the chains for him. Like I said great coach and even better friend. I have the out most respect for Derrick he is definitely going to be missed. Polk is heading in a rough patch I fear.

Does Polk have a replacement in mind? Someone on staff?

I played for Davis, I was part of the 2001 team that went 9-3. I never really liked him as a person but he was a good coach. I think he did all that could be expected of him given the talent pools he has had to pick from for the past 19 seasons. I don't see anyone doing any better with Polk co football than he did. I played two seasons under Jeff Williams before he was fired and Derrick took over, and while I really liked Jeff as a person he wasn't a good coach. Derrick took Williams' players and in his 2nd season we were a completely different team. Derrick was responsible for that change, like I said I didn't care much for him as a person but as a coach he deserves a lot of credit. Best of luck to him where ever he ends up.

Also meant to post Charger that I know a few of the assistant don't want it. It's nothing with the program it's higher up. If anyone on the staff takes it I believe the OC  Brewer would and he would be a good fit.

Cleveland has a HC position open.

Does anyone know where their soccer teams play their home games?

If you think soccer had anything to do with this, you’re as misinformed as I thought. I’m sure you would like to think it did, but once again you’re wrong. Nothing other than the administration in central office is the reason he left. Go back to the soccer threads with the other 8 people that care about that sport. Be careful what you wish for. I was here the last time a Davis left this program. That didn’t end well.

19 year career @ Polk County.

Look for them to hire the current offensive coordinator, Rusty Brewer. I don’t think the school system is in financial condition to go after another head coach.

    • Understand the young thing.  I was one of those.  Barely 17 when I graduated from high school and started college.  But redshirting for athletic purposes isn't doing them any favors, in my opinion.  Life isn't always going to be fair.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
