TSSAA doesn't allow as much of that anyway.  There are a few anomalies like Greenville, Alcoa and Maryville.  I don't see Maryville going much higher in a system like this.

Yep, South Pitt gets their out of zone players from Alabama and federal prisons....TSSAA rules don't apply.......:thumb: Bunch a cheating skillet makers!:roflolk:

That's special coming from the town that invented open enrollment schools.  You guys make B.A. in the 70s, 80s and 90s look like pikers.

This is our "zone", because we said it is our "zone".

TSSAA allows a ton of it. Most of the school systems in this state are open zone.

Most are not.  That is a misconception because county school systems allow students to apply to go to another school within the system.  However, there has to be space, approved by principal and school board.  That is just for academics.  TSSAA will consider this a transfer in most cases unless it is a Freshman with no athletic record.  Academics and athletics are 2 separate issues.  If they  have participated in athletics,, that requires sitting out 1 year.  Marion County Schools is an example of this. Maryville and Alcoa are not part of the county school system.

An open zone school is one who allows students to attend that live outside their zone regardless of reason. Most school systems in TN are open zone. It is determined by their school board policy not whether they are county or a city system. You are just plain wrong if you say otherwise.

You're right BPM. ALL schools are open zone unless designated otherwise by their own governing bodies. To be considered a completely closed zone school there would be no students allowed to attend outside a preset and rigid zone affixed by their board of control, for any reason, with no exception... any exemption in any form denotes "open zone" in the language of TSBA and Department of Education. Most folks have the misconception that you're either one or the other without realizing that administration is free to place any and all restrictions (barring discrimination from precedent) on attendance that they wish. Just to clarify... a completely "open zone" school would allow any student eligible to attend public school access to said school, and I doubt that there are any of those either, but any variance from completely restricted is considered open.

No, you are plain wrong.  Because there is a procedure for it, doesn't mean it is open zoned.  Furthermore, TSSAA talks about in their guidelines. For example, A senior 3 year starting QB can't just transfer from SP to Whitwell or vice verse without the parents moving into the other schools zones.  The Marion School School board regulations and TSSAA rules ARE the reason.  Furthermore, if you were correct, Fayetteille wouldn't have gotten hammered.
