This topic should've been named Huntingdon vs. Cornersville Pt 2.

I think Friday night will be closer than anyone from West TN expects.

A dog fight style ball game,

So, to be clear, are you predicting a Huntland win or.. ?

Personally i dont care if Huntingdon wins by 50 or by 7. The only thing that matters is getting the win and everyone is healthy for next week.

I'm not gonna predict this one,

Definitely more likely that Huntingdon comes out on top of this one though.

Back to the game should be a good atmosphere for the game the Huntland fans will come out and support but again just think the Mustangs have too much fire power.

I would agree. Could possibly have a majority of R5 out supporting as well. You are right on the firepower side. IF Huntland can pass the ball, they may have a chance. Reed is fast, not sure is fast enough for that defense though.

If Huntland has to rely on the passing game to win this game won't be close.

I believe that to be a very true statement. Although, if our defense did have a weakness, i would definitely say it is the cornerbacks. Ensley does what he can at safety, but we have been beaten several times from double move routes.

I was curious what you thought Jobres. You’ve seen both squads. What’s your thoughts on this season’s Mustangs

Athletically our db’s are fine. They get caught looking into the backfield a little too much. Working Lawton back into the rotation has done wonders.

The Mustang pass rush is their best pass defense. Opposing QB is usually on the run pretty quick. Our safety's come up quick in run support so they can be beat with the play action at times. Our corners don't know how to backpedal they just turn and chase but are athletic enough to get away with it most of the time. Our pass defense is for sure the the weakest part of our defensive game.

Only thing the corners will have to worry about is containing the edge with Huntland.

However, the Hornets OC has thrown some different things at teams this season. If he sees a weakness and thinks he has the assets to exploit it the Hornets could throw some. Purely from a scheme aspect though.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
