My coworker took a bet that Haywood would win by 14 or more. Good or bad bet?

Sheww, I would not bet on the game period. Rivalry games you can throw the numbers and stats out the window. Either team has a legit shot at winning this game. Both are really good, with great coaching. ZERO chance I would give someone 14 points to cover. They will have to win by 15 points to win the bet.

I would agree. I know this is a new year but last year it was a really good game and either team could have won. I just hope for a good injury free game. Hopefully this will help the Chargers in the playoffs.

Only time will tell! Kirby will always have to Wing T in his back pocket. It has won him plenty games over the years.

One thing is for sure about the chargers is that they run the Wing T to near perfection and can be tough to stop! It appears that Covington has ran multiple offensive formations this year. These two teams facing each other ids a recipe for a great game!!

I just went back and watched last year’s game again. Of course, I was looking through my “purple and gold” glasses as a Covington fan. I had remembered Charger fullback Flowers having a big game running the ball, but here’s some stuff I had forgotten:

Covington ran out of the wing-T the entitle game. Per my count, we were 3 for 3 passing the ball, and had significant yardage on those three completions. That’s a lot of passing for a J.R. Kirby team.

The biggest negative for Covington occurred at the end of the first half. Haywood was punting, and we roughened the punter. Haywood got a first down and scored on the next play, moving the score from 14-7 to 14-13. This year we roughed the place kicker for Dyersburg on a last minute field goal attempt, giving them a first down. From there, they scored a TD to beat us. We need to avoid those roughing penalties.

The Chargers took a knee at the two yard line to end the game, rather than try to run the score up. If y’all are beating us this year, I hope you return that favor.

I’m looking forward to Friday night.

Coach smith shows class. Like i said in post earlier this game is emotionally personal to this team this week. You’ll probably see the name Yvette Forrest on all the players from Haywood Friday night, especially her son #44 johnathan Forrest

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
