Not questioning the hire for HVA, but Oak Ridge didn’t promote him. If he was a home run hire he’d be at Oak Ridge as the HC. He also doesn’t have a state championship win on his resume, Josh does.

Not taking anything away from Josh, but we all know who runs the offense at Powell. And… you would’ve had to be a moron to not be successful with the talent on that roster. He has such a small sample size because of his inexperience, but he didn’t exactly light it up at CAK in 2018. Not to mention having to vacate a win, and being asked to leave.

Again, an interesting take.

Let's just hope this HVA hire is better than the last one, as they haven't exactly been setting it on fire the last few years.

Absolutely agree, West Knoxville football is better when HVA is competitive. I do think Potter will add a ton of experience to Josh’s staff on the defensive side. He will need the help.

Many can say Matt runs the show. I don’t doubt that he has a heavy say in offense and defense. CAK, like mentioned earlier in this post throw JJ in year one under the bus but those defensive number might want to get revisited by anyone talking CAK 2018.

The defense caused them to be held to less than 20 on seven occasions? Interesting. And the defense caused them to forfeit due to an ineligible player? How about the blatant cheating that forced the board to remove him from the program? Not a surprise that they improved when he left.

Ineligible player is a head coach problem, not a JJ problem. Defense allowed 44+ in 6 of the 8 losses. Spin it how you need to, sure the offense numbers weren’t there. Let’s not confuse that defense with the 85 Bears either. If you’re going back 4 years when JJ is fresh off a state championship. Not much to complain about. Your complaint should be that his offense didn’t score 45+ a game.

I don’t know who was running the offense in the loss to Catholic but you can hang that L on offensive play calling in the second half. Powell should have continued to run the ball since the Irish couldn’t stop them. Going for home run balls and a stupid FG attempt were the only way Catholic had any chance to win.

Do OC's call FG attemps?

Listen to the big bird in the sky, when he tells you this. Coach Potter may not even be coaching at Bearden on either side of the ball and definitely will not be the DC.  I do agree he would add a lot of experience if he decides decides to join his staff but that is to be seen in the future.  Now for HVA the bird foresees them winning 3 to possible 5 games just because of the kids being older.

Actually is it not an AD/Principal problem.  Unless things have changed recently do they not they sign off on eiligibility?

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
