Science Hill Football Changes - time has come

The football program at SHHS seems to be stagnant under HC Stacy Carter.  Has he been there long enough? He was hired back in 2010, and while it may seem like he has had a lot of success at SHHS, it also seems like the fans  (or what fans are left) are tired of the •Stacy Carter Show• … just an observation.  The football program at SHHS will never be able to compete with the big 6A schools in Knoxville with Carter as their leader, sadly he has proven that   Carter seems to be a great guy, but his knowledge of the game seems to be less than what is needed for 6A football

This football program will need a new leader, a new Head Coach prior to kickoff in the 2022 season, or they’ll be losing even more players to Betsy, Crockett, Boone, Bristol, WestRidge, and anywhere else people can get to … to get away from the •Stacy Carter Show•

So, It is time! Will SC read the writing on the wall, and hear the fans in the stands? Or Will the admin have to put pressure on SC to leave?

Thoughts?

Science Hill has always had the athletes, they just can't seem to put together a winning combination.

Pretty good article in the Johnson City Press entitled "Where were the fans?" (link below).      Science Hill is the 4th biggest school in the state and there were only 600 fans at their game with Farragut.    Clearly community support is not there for the Toppers, and although I can't stand SH as a team those kids deserve way better than what their fan base is giving them.      Does all that go back to Carter?     That I'm not sure, but it sure wouldn't hurt if the fans could get behind their team.

vs. the last head coach at SH, Carter has been able to do what was wanted for the program.  1.  Beat DB 2. Conference Championship 3. Beat DB.  That's it.

In the state it was in during the late 90's to 2000's before Carter took over, no one can argue that Carter has been effective in the program.  I think he's doing more than fine.

A couple of things I think people need to remember (That being SH, DB, and West Ridge) is that 6A is a black hole that ends whenever they play Maryville in the playoffs.  That's just how it is.  Coaching is top notch there, I won't make an argument that it isn't, but you don't have kids from the surrounding counties transferring or entering in the program from other counties like you do at Maryville.  Elizabethton and Greeneville have that luxury.  They are both in a sweet spot where they avoid Alcoa and Maryville.  To be honest, both of those teams are on track to be back to 5.  DB and SH both to be stuck in 6A until the end of time, West Ridge is on track to be back in 5A in the next 2-6 years.  West Ridge has the potential to be a power house, time will tell.

Very well stated sir!         As long as Maryville is in the 3rd round DB and SH are....  ....   basically attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis

I’m certainly not saying the program is in worse shape than it was before Carter took over, just not sure how many times “coaching errors” can be “ignored” in 6A football.   At some point SHHS is going to need to compete with the Knoxville Schools if they want to be considered “among the best” … but If SHHS and Coach Carter are okay with being a mediocre 6A football team, then there is  absolutely no need in any coaching changes.

As long as they win the annual Super Bowl (against Kingsport) they pretty much don't care.

Oakland is probably the only team in 6A that has better overall athletes than does Science Hill (this year). A group like that only comes around about every 10 years or so in this part of the country. Wasted.

Truth!! ThAt group was FULL of talent.  Sad to see such a season end in a matter of bad coaching calls.

What is Science HIll willing to pay for a top coach?  FYI the top D2 coaches in Tennessee are in the $150,000 range as are the top public school coaches in Texas.  In Texas most of the head coaches along with the OC and DC do not have to teach a truly academic subject.  They may teach 2 periods of strength & conditioning or drivers education but nothing that requires a great deal of preparation. If SH really wants to win they must pay for a great coaching staff.

I bet the coaching staffs at Elizabethton and Greeneville make less than the coaching staff at Science Hill and DB.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
