There is no such thing as a 12 month contract. That term means your coaching supplement will be equivalent to two extra months salary. $45,000 per year divided by 10 months = 4,500 per month. That equals to a $9,000 supplement for head coach. Softball is around $4,500 and athletic director is around 2,500 in TC. That’s 61,000. I do agree that’s above average pay. But to Bruce’s argument, it’s not enough for any of the coaches. And I would be willing to bet he is the 3rd or 4th highest paid coach in the district. Metro, Wilson, Sumner, Robertson schools pay much better overall for their teachers and coaches.

Blake makes more than everyone in his district, by alot.

workouts are not permitted to be year around.. wrong again homie.

I know every coach on tc, Bruce,

Second statement is also bs.

Come on man

So sports cant lift weights throughout the school year? and over the summer? Yeah ok.

I am not talking about TC, specifically. In the State of Tennessee, as a whole. Coaching is behind due to salaries. Coaching football isnt just a hobby, but when you make peanuts to do it, you dont take it seriously.

I have friends in other states near us, that do 12 month contracts (240 Days) for some Head Football Coaches. Thats exactly the type deal a Principal has, but on a different pay scale. Plus a stipend. Thats what I was referencing.

Theres Coordinators there that make 80k a year, in the upper classifications, and 60k in lower classifications. Assistants are mid 50's to low 60's depending on experience and school population. (These are all estimations too)

I did not realize the AD supplement was so low either.

High school football can not operate for 12 months.  Head coaches are not permitted to do so.  Weight lifting or otherwise.

First, I dont care if the guy is late 20's or early 60's. Being a Head Football Coach is about the most underpaid job in this State. You put in about 100 hours a week and its not all just coaching football. You have a day job, teaching. Then your side gig is football. On top of all that goes along with it. And forget about a break, this is year round. its a 7 day 365 day gig. No other sport has these demands.

Second, the Football Coach is THE most recognized man in any district. He is the face of the school regardless of who makes more. Sure the Superintendent and Principals will make more. But the Football coach is more "famous" than them. And Honestly brings more to the school than them. Put all Head Football Coaches on a 12 month contract, like an administrator. Because, well, thats what they are.

Third, the Tennessee State teachers matrix determines salary. Very few districts are against it. Masters level teachers with 5 years experience may make around 60k a year now.

Fourth, What is your definition of sizeable? 5-7k is about what most schools pay in TN to be the HC. Theres exceptions, but the majority are underpaid, understaffed, have no resources, have no clue how to run an efficient program, are not supported by admin, and cant upgrade facilities from back when i played.

You will lose this argument. These HC work for basically free. The assistants do work for free, by the time you figure up their actual working hours.

I am saying ALL football coaches are underpaid, regardless of the district.

Finally a post we agree on!!

March kids out in the dead periods, and let me know.  Better yet, let TSSAA know, let's see how that goes.

You know good and well that their are teams who go out during dead period and practice year round in their fancy indoors. Just like basketball, soccer, and baseball teams practice year round. It is called open gym facility lol

Coaches aren't permitted to work out students in any way during dead weeks/ period.

Some schools follow this.  All are supposed to.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
