Is the transfer portal hurting high school recruits?

Seen the other day some coaches getting frustrated thinking their high school recruits are finding it harder to find colleges for their players.  What are your thoughts?

Absolutely it is.  College coaches are looking for players already physically developed and who have been playing and practicing against other college players.  

That said, it has helped the lower levels of college competition.  They are getting better players than they were before the transfer portal was a thing.  Junior college baseball in Tennessee, in particular, has seen benefits from it.

Also the extra year a lot of college players got has created a log jam too. I agree though it has in a way helped the FCS and lower to get better players.

I am good with the portal, I just think there needs to be more rules.  Someone proposed just letting each school have 5 players frome the portal per year, then atlhletes could only use the portal one time.  This would eliminate a player having to much power over being coachable.

Obviously it's not affecting the 4 and 5 star types.  They are still being recruited heavily and signing.  

What we aren't seeing are the 3 stars and below type prospects getting the kinds of offers that they once were.  That's where the big programs are opting for transfers who have proved themselves capable of playing at a high level.  The mid majors are benefitting from those kids, getting more athletic kids than they have been.  And obviously it is filtering down to D2, NAIA, and jucos.  

Don't really think it is affecting NCAA D3 schools that much, because most of the kids who are recruited and end up at those schools are high academic types who are still going to D3 schools.  

Once the extra Covid year eligibles end, and when the transfer portal is more regulate things should begin to readjust just a bit.  But as long as the portal is still a thing, it's going to affect high school recruits to some degree.

Was about to say the same thing in regards to the COVID year. IMO, that's been a bigger factor than the portal. Transfer Portal is ideal if you need a quick fix at a position, but you can't sustain a program that way

Agree in theory, but the transfer portal will still be a major recruiting field for P5 programs.  Many of them are holding back 3-5 scholarships from signing day to see who ends up in the portal who can potentially step in and be immediate help.  Those are 3-5 scholarships that high school prospect aren't going to get.

Very true in full agreement. But when the pressure to win is as high as it is in P5, your gonna take the sure thing.

MTSU isn't a P5 school.
