Oh absolutely. Definitely wasn't trying to take anything away from Maryville's performance. It's just tough watching this Powell offense. They look like they are playing with one arm.

Said it last week, unless 11 and 9 can get the ball in creative ways it's going to be a long season. Wheeler is a nice athlete and will be solid but not sure you need the game going through his hands right now.

Powell looked good despite not having QB1.  Defense played a lot better than the week before, kept them in the game.  Eventually they got gassed cause of so many 3 and outs by offense.  It was  13-0 at halftime without QB1.  Powell runs away from this game if he played.  Maryville is the not the same Maryville.  This could be the first year in like 10000 years that they don't win a region title?  JMO

I didn't see a D! player on the field for either team

Those who make those evaluations and offer scholarships disagree.

Vaughn for Maryville is a UVA verbal.

Grubbs for Maryville is a Liberty verbal.

Greene for Powell is a Cincinnati verbal.

Redmond for Powell has multiple D1 offers, although something is underlying there.  Don't know what, but often when recruitment talk slows like it has there are academic concerns there.

Foust for Powell has at least 1 D1 offer.

Soles for Powell has multiple D1 offers.

Just the ones I know of off the top of my head.

Disagree with you. Powell doesn't run away if you son plays. Maryville was gashing the Powell defense with the run all night. Your son is a great QB, but he doesn't stop the run if he plays.

And Derek Hunt amd his coaches aren't stupid.  They gameplanned for a game without your son. Head he played it would have been a totally different game plan for them, too.

So was Packer correct when he said that had it been a region game Jordyn would have played?

It's an interesting recruitment for sure. Offers from P5 early in High School and his numbers has yet to meet the offer sheet. Heard he was more viewed as a DB and not a WR because of his inconsistency at WR. He got hit with tragedy in his life, but definitely not one that I would have figured would still be on the board at this point.

I believe you to be accurate on the position thing. WRs who can't catch the ball consistently become DBs in the college game.

The kid can play at that level based on his physical measurable, which are  off the charts. Hope he can figure it out and earn the opportunity to prove it.

Yeah we're not good at all. Hopefully we can improve.

The thing about Maryville is that they can decline quite a bit from their “personal best” and still be beat almost everyone. They don’t win just because they have really good players. There are really good players all across the state. The difference for them is in the little things that are really huge things in the game of football. They are excellent at being methodical, disciplined, strategic and consistent. They play fundamentally sound football, they rarely get surprised and know how to capitalize on other teams’ mistakes. Your QB makes a bad decision? They’ll turn it into 6 points. Your d lineman made contact behind the LOS but didn’t quite wrap up? They’ll make 30 positive yards out of it. They are incredibly well coached and their discipline is better than most. Do I think they can be beat? Sure. They aren’t performing magic. They are however, executing consistently and have prepared  and trained hard to be able to outlast and persevere. Until other teams can perform on that level fundamental soundness (for lack of better words) they will continue to win nearly every time they play.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
