Yeah those smaller rural mountain communities don’t seem to have much of a feeder system or something. Minus the 2 you mentioned both in Carter Co. Small ball up in NE Tn just can’t compete historically with anyone east of Knoxville. Not sure why. But Cloudland having less than 200 kids is always competitive and most seasons awfully good. Those Mtn boys are a different breed for sure.

2001 landers would've mercy ruled last year's teams and mckenzie.  We've not had an offensive and defensive line like that ever since.

Yeah and went against a 2A Private Ezell Harding Team and lost a heartbreaker. 
They were DEFINITELY the Best Single A public school in Tn. Those kids got robbed of a State Championship.

That SP team in 2001 that went to Cloudland was a really bad team. That 2001 Ezell team was unbelievably good.  The same thing happened to SP in 1995 and 2003. We lost close games to BGA in semifinals  and Boyd Buchanan in the quarterfinals that cost us a state title those years. Cloudland is definitely not alone in losing games to privates that cost them state titles.

The 2007 Pirate team did mercy rule McKenzie. Everyone that McKenzie and their QB were going to have their way in that one also.

TSSAA separating the private schools in the playoffs was long overdue. And it costs some really small public schools like Cloudland from making history by bringing home a state championship to their community.

SP won 2 out of 3 against the alphabets as did TC, but it cost both some title chances typically just by point or 2.

Some of the traditionally good 1As have very good records against the privates.We used to win and hold winning records against Catholic,CAK beat good Webb teams,Boyd but this new deal makes them extremely hard to handle!

They play under a different set of rules.  Its a big deal.  Some of them put more emphasis on it than others.
