Semi Haywood vs Pearl-Cohn

Pearl Cohn is more battle tested than Haywood. By far, they have played a tougher schedule than Haywood. Similar to Haywood, they can score. If this game were to be in Nashville, I would lean with the Firebirds. This could be the first time Haywood has faced any sort of adversity. Curious: has Haywood trailed at any point of the season?

I'm not a believer in "playing tough games in August can prepare you for November." Why? because late August was 3 months ago, and a lot can change in between those that time. I don't think PC will be scared or timid. I respect the heck out of this Pearl Cohn program. I'm leaning with the Tomcats, but Pearl Cohn needs to strike first. I do believe that's the key. I won't be shocked if there is 65 points combined in this game.

Sorry bud! Not taking the rat poison! It’s gonna be a good game. Whoever wins the Haywood/PC game AC better beware is all I have to say!

Haywood played six teams which made it to the quarterfinals, including Covington who is in the semifinals. They played Bartlett and Henry County in the preseason. And no, they have not trailed a single second this season. But they are battle tested with two semis and one final from this senior group. I get your point, but this team is just different than those in the past. Pearl Cohn is a great team, but I'm leaning Haywood by 10 with weather and the home field a big factor.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
