Metro have the most undisciplined players in the state, metro coaches these days aren’t very good, metro coaches can’t win big games, metro football isn’t good anymore, metro will not win a gold ball no time soon, etc etc etc. Now look at metro with 2 teams playing for a state championship this week. EN and PC have some great coaches and players and having did an amazing job this season. PC lost their first 2 games and everybody counted them out. EN lost their last 2 games and everybody counted them out as well. Now look at them both playing for a gold ball Friday and Saturday.

When people say Metro football isnt good anymore they are talking about across the board.

Only 4 of the 13 teams had a .500 or better record. East, Pearl and Cane Ridge have been consistently good. Well East at least since they made the coaching change. After that it has normally been Hillsboro but they took a step back and McGavock took advantage of a weak schedule to go 7-4 and 4th in their region.

After those 4 it was pretty bleak in Metro. Of course, with open zoning now it becomes three all star teams of kids from all over town and then everybody else play with the dregs. Truth hurts.

Congrats to both the Firebirds and Eagles. Now how about y'all back the home and home.

Here are the statistics from the last 6 seasons to back up what I said. 2017-22.

Pearl Cohn                                     66-12    85% win percentage with one game remaining

Cane Ridge                                    53-17  76%

East Nashville                               51-22  70%   with one game remaining

Hillsboro                                        30-34   47%

Maplewood                                    28-37  43%

McGavock                                      24-41  37%

Stratford                                        23-45  34%

Overton                                         20-40  33%

Hillwood                                        16-41  28%

Hunters Lane                                11-48  19%

Whites Creek                                 11-48  19%

Antioch                                             2-55  7%

Glencliff                                            2-55  7%

Pretty spot on from what I said. 3 county wide all star teams.

Truth hurts.

Do this from 1990-2000 and see what you come up with! I played in the mid 1996-2000.

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
