Union City enters this game with a sour taste in their mouth after losing season opener to Powerhouse Ensworth. I’m looking for some determined hard nose football from the tornadoes. Go Tornados!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched the USJ Peabody game. Peabody at times gave USJ trouble running right at them, but Peabody self destructed with center QB exchanges and penalties way too much. USJ was more disciplened for sure. They made some mistakes themselves just not as many.I can see Union City giving USJ some problems with their offense. Will be interesting. USJ left some points on the table as well. From what I hear lots of teams played sloppy this week. Will be an interesting week 2. Hopefully lots of improvements.

Nobody overlooks USJ they always have a reloaded team. Now a new coach so only a couple of scrimmages and 1 game to watch film on. On the positive note our boys just game off playing kids the size of College Seniors and that only made them better. They never gave up and the starters refused to leave field at the end. They wanted to keep competing no matter what the score was. Says a lot for the starters and the Senior Leadership.

We can all agree that this USJ team is less talented than the past few years. However, it looks to me as if this new coach has them extremely disciplined, and it also seems that this team has the best chemistry that USJ has had in recent years. Despite all this, I think USJ is too young and unexperienced to be able to hang with Union City all 4 quarters. I have it being close in the first half but Union City pulling away at the end. Union City wins 27-14

USJ struggled against UC last year and I understand the Golden Tornadoes return much of their squad this year. Bruins are much smaller in the trenches than they have been in recent memory and struggled to stop the run early against Peabody. Coaching staff made adjustments (a novel concept on McClellan Road) and the defense was noticeably better in the last 2.5Q.  I have to think Pritchard will scheme up UC pretty well on defense. Bruins missed some big opportunities in the passing game that I expect to improve with more reps. No shortage of talent, just young small and inexperienced.

I expect this to be a close one into the second half, but the size difference may indeed wear USJ down as the game goes on. Not ready to make a score prediction yet.
