Good post General. I like Johnson, but the idea that he should've been the next HC is laughable. Everyone in coaching circles knows that this is a good hire, and trying to bring his personal life into it is despicable. If CH folks want to get personal, they should look in the mirror. Lord knows one of their native sons (who moved on) is far from a beacon of morality, nor is many currently tied to the program. Best of luck to Coach Palmer and great job administration for bringing in a proven guy to lead the program.

Haven't said this in a few years. Awesome post! The personal shot was despicable and not many in town want to go there.

I'll address this.

Respectfully,

The General

Far too much respect given to that butt hurt troll. That was a lot of stupid in the new guys first post. That loser walks around mumbling about class, pride, tradition while typing classless remarks on the internet.

A week ago I was rooting for hometown guys with no idea who applied. 7 days later I am onboard with this hire and would advise him to CLEAN HOUSE of any of the current staff who are poisoning the well or not reining in their buddies who are. Reports I got from Tuesday were players were excited and parents at the game were even happier. Anyone on staff who has encouraged or not actively discouraged the negative garbage needs to take their tradition somewhere else and show us how great they are.

Consensus, across the state is great hire. The future looks bright for Forrest. A handful of disgruntled Forrest "fans" try to sabotage the program before the coach even starts. Where were these "fans" when the program was on a steady decline. Johnson would have had a better chance had he moved away from what the high school was running or stood up to the head coach running the program into the ground. Instead he accepted a role after the OC was dumped and was on staff for six straight losses and the two worst high school seasons at the school in twenty years. Old coach was in desperate need of assistants last three years. Where were these native sons then?

You all just got a really good Coach.  Reading this thread, if you all have the horses, Coach Palmer is going to know how to use them.

I believe we have the horses and reading this thread we also have plenty of horses' azzes.

gasp, we agreed on something?  I'd have not used "laughable" if for no other reason than respect. 23-0 in 3 seasons is immortality in my book.

but otherwise i agree with your post.

The middle school record means very little to me. They have been able to beat teams with much better athletes simply because those kids had been running the Wing-T since youth football and that's a difficult offense for some high school coaches to prepare for, much more so for middle school coaches that rarely do film prep or even opponent prep at that level. The success had way more to do with the system than it did the coaching in all due respect. Also, his reaction to not getting the job is proof enough that he's not ready to take that step. I'll refrain from elaborating out of respect for Coach Johnson.

Leroy is on fire today. I'll piggy back on that. Westwood and Community have won middle school titles. No one who watches those two programs sees high school ready head football coaches. They did have a good class or a stud athlete  and make the most of it. Forrest has had an unbelievable run of skill guys the last three seasons. At the same time, MTCS dopped out and Fayetteville took a huge talent downturn. The MS competition is mediocre right now. I also remember a middle school team with Swift, Burchell, Davis, and McClendon that was mediocre. In his 5 seasons what QB has been developed by his middle school? He's had 1 QB in five seasons move up to play high school. What kind of high school coach will he be? No one can answer that. Who on earth that cares about the program wants to let someone learn on the job with this group when proven coaches are out there. Johnson's coaching stock will greatly improve learning under this guy for a year or two. I haven't heard about the reactions yet.

I will chime in.  I do not have a dog in the hunt, but I have been very close to Coach Palmer at one point early in his career and have tracked him ever since because given the opportunity.........I will hire him in a minute.  Forrest......This is what you are getting:  He is without a doubt one of the best QB developers in TN.  His offenses have been dynamic.  He is very good at finding tendencies in defenses and exploiting them.  Very detailed practices.  He has a phenomenal off-season program, not just weight lifting, Team building exercises based on competition and the will to win that You will see for yourself in short time.  Despite the setback at Shelbyville, he is a family man with a strong willed bride.  They survived the situation and have become stronger.  He is at Forrest because he wanted that job and it gets him back to MidTN where he needs to be.  I foresee him being at Forrest for the long term if he will be allowed to do his thing.  He is good people.  Congratz to Palmer and Forrest.  It wont take long to see results.

Thank you for your insight. We literally have people in our town reading this and saying but he didn't go to kindergarten in Chapel Hill so I don't like him. OM freaking-G

    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
