CougarDadx2
No doubt Rankin is the GOAT in TN. About the only category he is not tops, is winning percentage, GQ has that honor. As far as comparing him to KC, well KC took over two programs that were doing pretty well (both had winning season across multiple years before he arrived). Rankin on the other hand, built Smith County, Riverdale and is in the process of turning BB into a powerhouse (all three had consecutive losing seasons, before his arrival). Tough to argue against that. KC will be HOF - but can he catch Rankin in total wins - depends on how long he wants to go, and how long Rankin wants to keep adding to his totals.

George Quarles was good, but Rankin has shown he can win at more than one school. I believe Kevin Creasy has the same qualities, but I don't see him staying in it in his 70's. jneal
Dean Fisher was fired in 1989 and Riverdale had success before Rankin but not the level that Gary brought. Before Gary Rankin was hired the furthest Riverdale made the playoffs was the second round. In fact, my first two years as a student at Riverdale they lost to Rhea County in the playoffs. Who was Rhea County's quarterback? Give up, Guess Who? Andy Kelly who would go on to star at Tennessee. David Alsup 1984, Thomas McDaniel 1998 and Marty Euverard as well won there. Remember James Howse, Steve McAdoo, The Hugle brothers, Robbie Knight etc. etc. Daune Morris from Chattanooga Red Bank another kid from Nashville private school transferred then Morris transfers in two days later? Before Fisher, Phil Watts was the first coach when the school opened in 1972. Both Riverdale and Oakland played their home games at Floyd Stadium at Middle Tennessee. And they were under TM. Creasy has obviously taken them to another level and credit to him. .Creasy has created a dynasty.
