Ref Blame

Recommended Posts

tssaa should be ashamed of the officiating product they put on display at the state tournament.  Both Boys and Girls tournaments have been horribly officiated.   Its shameful.

I'm not blaming the individual referees at all.  The process and decision makers are at fault.  Bottom line is there are people out there that have no business being out there.

I agree it is a total embarrassment and my team didn't make it. Terrible.

their was 3 refs in the boys tournament that absolutely had no business being there! they would be shameful to be in middle school games reffing!

Even legendary coach Johnny Morgan talked about how bad the officiating was when he announced his retirement this week. He said we don't even need a state tournament if the officials are going to be this bad. I get it Coach Morgan. I totally get it.

Not the first time he has blamed refs for a state tournament loss.  Taking nothing away from his coaching and his teams, both legendary - but full court man/trap/run-n-jump/etc style and you are playing a zone team - well it is not rocket science to figure out the discrepancy.  Saying all that, that style is what got MC most of those 1000+ wins so there is that.

Beaty had what 40 last year against McMinn Central guarding her man. This is the 4th year in a row York has been eliminated by a 2-3 zone.

Whether it be on this site or on social media, this entire state tournament when a team loses, it's fan base complain constantly or blame the refs....the games you won had the same officials/officiating, the team you played had the same refs (I would bet good money that not a single 1 of them have cared who won the game either). This is why a generation of sports kids are growing up and thinking they are better than what they are, are uncoachable, or can't take critiquing. It's always someone else's fault, the other team/person just can't be better (be at that game or just overall). Quit blame gaming, I know in a games span there are more mistakes and missed shots to more than cover human error of refs. Teach our kids better folks, stop playing the blame game when you don't get your desired outcome. Sometimes, your just not good enough.

I agree with 99% of what you have said!  The issue is that when it comes to the elite/top/premier games in high school athletics a high percentage of the time the officials are assigned to the game based on politics!  It’s a good ole boy system that needs to be eliminated immediately.  Just assign the very best officials to the games based on their skill level and not their longevity.  Look at the high school football and basketball state tournament and you see a bunch of old fat and out of condition men officiating.  Yes, if the officials know where to be it makes it easier but the kids are so much faster today and the officials are so out of condition that they don’t move fast enough to get into the proper position to make the call.  They are guessing as to what the call should be.  The truly sad thing is that these individuals are so out of condition and overweight that it’s only a matter of time before one of them dies on the court/field in front of everyone due to cardiac issues.

Refs have been at it for a while. I still remember a team being outshot at the foul line 26 attempts to 2 in a tight game, ending a long win streak. The refs acted smugly, for lack of a better word, the entire game, they just weren’t going to let the visiting team from out of town win. Nowadays it would have definitely been looked at closely.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say York wins if Beatty doesn't foul out

Westview didn't play well and still won. Westview would have been up 1 had they not called the foul. York was an outstanding defensive team but had problems scoring against a 2-3 zone even with Beaty. Don't know if they would have won or not. If I had a gun to my head I would have taken Westview the last minute or so with a lead even with Beaty.

In the boys state 3A tournament the winning team shot 69 free throws in the tournament, the teams they played combined shot 27 free throws. In the title game they shot 35 free throws we shot 10. In the semi final game they shot 18 free throws and their opponent shot 2. No high school team is that disciplined. The kids deserve better! I hate politics in sports, let the kids earn what they've worked hard to earn!

    • No. Macon fans think they’ll repeat without the borders twins 😂
    • I think you’re just in delusion because you thought all these players would want to go to the dumpster fire called Austin East… which btw none of them did.
    • So I talked to now 3 players and counting who’s left Bearden and a handful of players who have stayed, and a person who would know more than HTV’s coach, who is no longer even a coach but is still in the school building. There has not been a single report of Bearden coaches telling any players that. Most, if not all, the players who left did so before Coach Brad Taylor got there, so I’m not sure where you all are getting your information. Most of these players are going to where and whoever pays them. When Brad got into the coaching position at Bearden and started making phone calls to parents to introduce himself, about 37% asked for financial gain to be on the team. Just a heads up, the majority, if not about all, those players are now heading to Alcoa and AC, and two to Maryville, and they are getting them right much better than any school around here could offer outside of BA, but they didn’t want him due to size.
    • I mean, that's crazy to lie to them like that just to make sure they go out of KCS just to play.  I mean, most of them could've helped their base school but that "threat" made all of the ones that's left go outside of KCS .
