I've never seen Maryville play, but to win the way they do, somebody has to be doing something right.A good coach can make a average team, good and a good team even better. They can even make a bad team decent or good. But a bad coach will keep a bad team bad, make a good team bad,and can even make a great team, just plain average.Coaching is everything, you can win a few games on just talent, but you'll never be the one on the top without good coaching.Maryville has to have a good staff all together.

I think Scott Meadows at Jeff County deserves a mention. The Alcoa team he inherited in 2000 had a lot of good athletes many of them seniors. They put up points at will and won the state. The previous coach had not gotten near the production out of those same players/

In East Tennessee I would say the best offensive head coaches are:

1. George Quarles-Maryville

2. Ralph Potter-McCallie

3. Scott Meadows-Jeff. County

4. Don Woods-Morristown West

5. David Bibee-Baylor

6. Steve Brewer-Sevier County

7. Graham Clark-D.B.

8. Gary Householder-Seymour

9. Joel Helton-Central

10. Bill Satterfield-Greenback

Go Rebs.

Maryville has a great coaching staff. I would put their staff against anybody's staff.

George Quarles is the quarterback coach and head coach.

David Ellis is one of the best offensive line coaches in the state. He used to be a head coach in Georgia.

Jim Gaylor does a great job as defensive coordinator. He used to be Clinton's head football coach.

Mark Humphrey coaches Defensive line. He has been at Maryville for over 25 years. He is the head wrestling coach. He coached receivers when I was at Maryville. He does a great job.

Wayne Thompson coaches defensive backs and he is the strength and conditioning coach. He is a great coach.

Joe Pinkerton is the defensive end coach. He does a great job coaching football and basketball. He will be a future head coach one day.

Joe Robinette is receivers coach. He does a god job with the receivers.

Mike White is running backs coach. He is a great coach. He would be my choice for head coach if George Quarles ever left Maryville.

All those guys do a great job. As long as that staff stays at MHS they will compete for state titles. MHS will not win it every year but they will be in the hunt and the mix.

    • Clinton fans can only wait and set idle while the school is being drug through the mud and trying to figure out when they have finally hit the bottom.
    • Mancoverage sez: Thank you for weaving, with the written word, such a descriptive tapestry of your mind’s sherlockian thought machinations. It read’s as though it is the collaborative brain child of Thomas “The Ox of Sicily” Aquinas and John “Give Him 6!” Ward. Somewhere in this, the thoughtful mind will find, the exact future of Trousdale County Football. The Goat sez: Ox?!? Pffft. I can do stuff a dumb ole bull can do. I can take an “a” and I can take an “o” and I can do better and more of that bull stuff… in Latin. Diarrhoea Fecaes  The next coach of ole Snoball’s Yeller Jackets, ain’t on that list.
    • One school gets fined over $4,000 dollars because they had a baseball coach that gets ejected over a rule that is not in the rule book today (because no umpires in Tennessee called that rule when that coach was ejected). One school will get fined over $3,000 dollars because they had a football coach intentionally cheated. I hope TSSAA keeps a receipt over what schools they fined and how much, and for what reason. Meanwhile, if I'm a football coach at a school that has $3,000+ in the piggy bank, then hmmm.. No one knew Clinton was cheating intentionally until they went overboard and changed over 1,000 grades, and the word got out.
    • I didn’t know South Pittsburgs schedule could get any easier …
    • I just learned of this today and am very happy for Coach Peek. Excellent coach, better man.
