reftn,

You are both correct and wrong with regards to the National Federation and the TSSAA. The TSSAA adopts the rules just as the National Federation sends them down but they do have the option to change them if they wish. The state of TEXAS plays football by using the NCAA rules and not National Federation rules.

didnt potter of soddy pin both of these guys earlier in the season? ... j/w

NO. He told Potter how to beat Sanders earlier in the year and Potter won 10-6.

Bond, at full strength and the right calls, can beat anyone in the country at high school level. His only losses to Collins Hill and McCallie were earlier in the season, but a rematch next season could easily have different results judging how those matches went. Blair's pin with that fabulous half would have to be duplicated or Bond would win by points, I believe.

By the way, Bond beaten many of the greats in off season including Manley in an expidition a year or so ago. One period folkstyle, one freestyle and the final period Greco Roman. Just as a side note as we move into his final year and his worthy goal of another gold & MOW.

Good luck to the Davis Family and may he get a Co-championship awarded as has happened at higher levels of wrestling before.

Anyone in the country????????

On a given day and with Welder spending the summer drilling him. You do know that he was withheld back points at the end that may have beaten Collin hill's best wrestler and top ranked Lukadas (sp)?

Welder will greatly benefit Bond & the team as a Head or Co-coach.

Wait and see.

First of all the parents found and hired him.....If Welder is that good which I am not saying he is not...if he has been around the Nationals and Hall of Fame or whatever....why couldn't he have kept up with the cautions..(or score)....and still why was it in Coach Hill's best interest by not being in the corner....Bond is a great wrestler..but not best in the country....

cbg,

I am certainly no expert on NFHS, but from your post you indicate that TSSAA adopts certain rules handed down and ignores others? For instance, some states may only wrestle the 10 collegiate weight classes, if they so chose to?

That could very well be the case, but doesnt seem very much like a Federation if so.

That said, can you give me an NFHS rule TSSAA doesnt follow or hasnt implemented?

Could TSSAA adopt positions outside NFHS, such as tape review of academic calls?

The TSSAA adopts the rules just as the National Federation sends them down but they do have the option to change them if they wish.  The state of TEXAS plays football by using the NCAA rules and not National Federation rules.

And therefore, Texas has no vote on the football rules. I know of three states that do not precisely follow NFHS rules for wrestling--in two cases, it's just a 15th weight class (Montana, like USAW, starts with 98-105, while Texas adds 180). New York not only adds a weight class (96), but also still uses a late-1980s team point scale (6/2 for a tech, 5/1 for a superior, and 4/½ for a major). Georgia used to be on that list too, as they long had a 220 class.

Welder is in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame - located at Oklahoma State University. How 'bout them Cow Pokes!

Look it up - Jeramie Welder.

He won two National Championships.

Thanks, I did. To answer the question, coach Welder was 1993 USA Jr Greco champ and 1994 USA FILA Jr World Greco camp. That's what he's in there for. I'm guessing the summers after his Jr and Sr years in HS? Started for Nebraska in 97 and 98 for sure and went to the NCAAs. Did not AA but looked like he had a couple of nice seasons. How does a North Dakota/Nebraska boy end up in Nashville? Anyway, being a young pup, he should be able to really push those guys.

Welder is very humble and a very nice young man. He came to TN for employment reasons and started working with various Williamson County guys with their wrestling during his time off work. He loves USAW and really enjoys working with the kids. During the spring & summer if there is a wrestling room open, you can usually find Welder there with some kids working on freestyle, greco, conditioning, weight training what ever.

Welder has been a perfect addition to Franklin's coaching staff and works well with Hill & Gillespie. These guys are like hands in a glove when it comes down to working with their guys and there is always one of them in the wrestling room regardless of the season, they encourage year round training & mat time.

If you talk to any Rebel wRestlers, they will tell you - He PUSHES them in the practice room. Between these 3 coaches, the practice room was INTENSE during the season. During the post season there were other teams invited to join the practices or Franklin joined their practices, those other teams will even tell you it is INTENSE when Welder drives the drilling. He teaches moves and then drills them until you know the move.

Franklin has been blessed by having Hill & Gillespie as their coaches and then again this year with the addition of Welder.
