DUNKING IN WARMUPS?

i've known the rule...i think the reason Lucas and Jimmy Oden did it was because they thought the game wasnt a regular season game and therefore that rule didnt apply...they both know about it so they arent dumb enough to do without thinking it wouldn't count against them.

You can touch the rim you just cant pull it or "pop" it...ive seen many players dunk in warmups but they dont pop or hang on the rim and its fine

You may have seen them go above the rim and drop it through, but dunking in warm-ups has been a TSSAA rule for along time. If they catch the refs not looking they may get away with it.

when I played, I would drop it in the rim from above some times, but I could easily get above the rim and force it threw without ever touching the rim. Got warned for it alot but always asked the ref's to watch and see if I was touching the rim or not.... never got the T though.

yea in va we can dunk it but we can't hang on tha rim i dunk it all tha time in warm ups i just dont hang on it. and since when is jimmy dunkin?????????? he got hops now?????

It's illegal because its considered taunting or unsportsman like conduct. I've always wondered, too, but finally my coach told me.

Jimmy and Darius can both dunk now both get it pretty easy too

I think it would be great if they let players dunk before the ball games.... If you have someone who can throw it down let them showcase it before the game... Dunking is a art form that will be enjoyed by the fans and get the students pumped up before the game... Taunting ..lol please the other team should be paying attention too their on rim anyways.. So I say let the kids dunk its good for them and the fans.

I believe in some states it is legal. They can touch the rim, just as long as they don't pull it down and make it rattle. I think TSSAA should make this a rule. It would get the crowds pump up before the games.

Whether they still allow it or not I'm not sure, but at the Arby's Tournament in Bristol, they used to allow dunking in warm-ups. It is a top ranked tourney with some of the best h.s. teams around and some from other countries. It was always great to watch the top guys from each team turn warmups into a showcase and sometimes a fan contest among the crowd.
