  1. This statistic is worded very carefully to help fit a rhetorical point. How many of that 1/5th are kids with birthdays between late May and early August? It's very common for some kids to turn 18 the summer before their senior year, so yes technically they would fall into the category of being 19 before they enter college. However, I don't think that's a fair statistic to use to help in this point. Nonetheless, still very impressive! Congrats to Cody! Since he competed last year as an 8th grader, and is an 8th grader again this year, does that mean he won't be able to compete his senior year? Isn't there a rule about 5 years of competition? Or does that even matter to this kid, as he'll likely be training for Olympics 5 years from now and couldn't care less about a high school state title

  2. It’s simple. Three classifications in private school is an example of this. You can’t have a team from West Tennessee play a team from East Tennessee, you can’t a team from Memphis play against Clarksville Academy. The smaller private school league has to be the lowest of the whole classifications. Also, you have 4A Region 5 and 6 marching up. That’s 2 hour drive for each game. Hardin County played Montgomery Central I believe. North Side played Portland. A winless Memphis East team played Dyersburg. Yes, attendance numbers are going to be down. It’s not a good product when the running clock is in effect in November, and we are seeing that more often. Nobody is going to spend their money on a bad concert, a bad movie, and a bad team. But seeing this article is a pretty site to see, because we all know the TSSAA cares about the money. So they’re crying because they’re losing money, karma came out to bite them, and they have to do something.

  4. So is GC brother. We are not consistent offensively. We like to press and cause TO's. Hard to press when you can't score consistently. Good win for Westview!!

  8. Folks I know that many of you don't want to recognize it or simply are not informed but the TSSAA is not in good financial condition. With the 2017 football playoff numbers down from 2016 and the 2018 attendance numbers down 19% from 2017 it is not a pretty picture. If the organization is ever going to get back on solid footing they must take drastic measures. Like I have said before they should really consider doing the following: Class A Small public schools and no private schools Class AA Public schools and small private schools that do not offer any financial aid Class AAA Public schools and small private schools that offer financial aid Class AAAA Large public schools and large private schools that offer financial aid Return to a District format with only the top 2 teams in each district advancing to the state playoffs. As it is now you only have about 50-55 teams in each division for football. Is that what people really want to achieve is to be the best team of 55 schools. At that rate if you are ranked number 6-10 in the state you are not even in the top 10% of your division. All teams that have a winning record that do not qualify for the state playoffs may play in a bowl game. All bowl games must be played the week after the regular season concludes. Two of the state championship games would be hosted in the East and two would be hosted in the West. The games would be played at the home field of the school participating. If the East hosted the Class A & AAA in 2018 they would host Class AA & AAAA in 2019. The TSSAA would receive 50% of the gate, the home team would receive 25% of the gate, 100% of the concessions and 100% of the parking and the visiting team would receive 25% of the gate. Yes it would be crowded and people would be everywhere but that would create a great atmosphere for high school athletics. When a business is in trouble they must cut all expenses to the bone or they will not survive. If the TSSAA waits to long to make changes they may be down for the count and not able to recover.

  9. I didn't know that. Good information. I can see it for the 1st round but after that it would then seem to be monotonous to me to play another regional foe. Not in every case but most likely the 1 and 2 seed in each region will move on to the 2nd round. 1 vs 2 in opposite region brackets then could face off. This will eliminate the 3 and 4 seed from having to travel outside the region area for the 1st round only. This wouldn't cure much of the woes that are plaguing attendance but I can see this happening. I love the idea of playing different teams in the playoff format but I'd be willing to give that up in the first round.

  10. Great environment for high school girls basketball last night wow. Lady Cavs played like all have expected last night. The freshman for Lady Cavs is the real deal and should be focal point for us all season.

  11. This is tough to see. From a Cornersville fan, radio crew perspective, we didn't see it. McEwen didn't bring many for round one, home side packed. Wayne County brought a crowd, home side packed. Huntingdon and Lake County games were packed on both sides. Huntingdon game in the freezing cold and Lake County in a downpour. Whitwell and Cornersville packed the stands in Cookeville. We may have been an exception to the rule. I hate to see a decline in attendance for HS football or any football for that matter. I actually think football will fall as the top sport over the next 10-20 years with the decline in participation in the youth leagues due to a growing fear over concussions and injuries. I'm not sold on cost being a part of the decline. Inflation hits everything, including sports. I think a bigger part is the decline in competition. Coaching, kids waiting longer to get started, kids playing that really have no need in playing and coaches having to play them because they have no option, the list could go on, but bottom line, the sport of football, and really all sports are suffering. Kids today would rather get a job and make money as opposed to playing a sport and many good athletes just don't play because of that. Just my humble opnion.

  14. Yes, I know the logistics of playing a team from another state as I have participated in this numerous times! Several schools in Tennessee do this every season so it's not like you are trying to reinvent the wheel or it's something new. I am not defending Ezell Harding but I am tired of the crying. There is nothing that can be done now so do your best to schedule another game or play an 9 game schedule. At my age I remember when high school teams played only eight (8) regular season games and I don't recall the world ever coming to an end.

  15. One of my friends were at the Stone and CC game and called me and he doesn't pull for either side and said it should have been over in regulation because the girl 0n CC that the Indian says runs up her stats hit the last second shot and was pulled to the ground and never got the and one foul . He said they would have been no problems with this post if the refs would have ended right there like it should have been and if she would have drained the free throw if had the opportunity. And for the rest of your post he went to York and CC last night and CC main player like you said had 25 and played 2 minutes into third quarter and never hit floor again the rest of game. So all this negativity post could have been avoided. I have no beef in it but I like great players and I try and keep up with them so don't take it away from the players because your probably not playing or coaching like me. Im just a basketball fan and been going to games all over Tennessee all my life so quit bashing players and coaches that you don't even know .
