I was an "Original Governor" at William Blount High School. We went from playing "Single A" football to playing "Triple A" with "Single A" athletes when they consolidated us. We fought hard but we were just overmatched. We managed to win 3 games that first year. We had nice new uniforms and and a big stadium though. The kids are all in school at Maryville now, just to explain the nickname. I can't pull against the Govs though. WB #23.

Did the folks in the Litton area end up going to Maplewood?

Suprisingly no one went to Maplewood although it was the closest school (imagine that Metro making a logical desicion). Most went to Stratford: K. Chinaware Temple, RB; B. Rust, QB; M. Holt, RB; F. Keyes RB; B Crane, DE and TE; C. Hall, OL; Madison got a good QB and punter in D. Mundy, M. Spurlock LB iI don't know; None went to East. Best girls basketball player went to North, D. Bumpus.

Hey NEWSTANG....WAVERLY HIGH SCHOOL 86-87 STARTED AT QB AS SOPH AND JR. MOVED TO LEXINGTON FOR 88 STARTED AT TE AND CB ON LAST LEXINGTON REGULAR SEASON UNDEFEATED TEAM.

I played for Jackson Southside in 88,89 and 90. I played alot of positions. I hate to burst your bubble on that 88 undefeated season that Lexington had. We beat Lexington that year in regular season with a 9-7 win and won the district.

My football career was brief. The highlight was a 30 yard td reception against Johnson County for Elizabethton's T.A. Dugger Middle School in 1978. I played one year on Elizabethton's JV under the legendary Dave Rider. They say I made a great goal line tackle against Bristol, but the resulting concussion robbed me of the memory. Following that season, my football career ended and I took my 5'9" 135lb. self over to Hack Hyder's baseball team where I belonged.
